Network Technician
Work Location: Quantico, VA
Clearance Requirement: TS/SCI
Position Type / Standard Work Hours: Full-time / 40 hours / On-Site
Summary/ Objective:
Perform technical services on the four AFOSI operational enclaves, AFOSI to AFNET points-of-presence, and the local test/integration network.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Build, implement, and execute solutions to connect workstations, servers, and peripheral devices to local area and wide area networks. Install, configure, operate, and maintain network equipment such as cables, switches, routers, firewalls, network monitoring devices, network management platforms, and identify and analyze network issues.
  • Monitor the networks daily via centralized network management platform(s) to identify and resolve network issues (packet loss, CPU, hard drive size, memory, trending issues, etc.).
  • Deploy solutions that ride on the infrastructure within the facility, as well as existing Air Force and Joint-Service network topology designs and designated network protocols.
  • Ensure IT infrastructure is installed according to Building Industry Consulting Service International {BICSI) and commercial best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems ranging from minor to significant.
  • Assist other DoD installations when troubleshooting network problems at AFOSI HQ or off-site locations.
  • Develop and maintain current Network Baseline Documentation on the configuration of the AFOSI networks.
  • Conduct two audits per year or upon request of the Government and submit updated/final documents every six months.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Travel:
Very little - less than 5%
Required Education and/or Experience:
  • 5 years' experience in IT field, with at least 3 years of experience in network engineering/administration.
  • Certified at IAT Level II (e.g., CCNA Security, Security , or other certification satisfying DoD 8570 certification requirements)
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining network equipment with thorough knowledge of routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE), SolarWinds is a plus.
  • Hands-on Experience with Juniper SRX and Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Experience with Cisco Multilayer network routers and switches, McAfee Firewall Enterprise (Sidewinder Admin Console).
  • Experience with network monitoring and management using an automated solution.
  • Able to assess infrastructure, identify areas for improvement, and recommend solutions.
  • Able to provide technical guidance and direction to system administrators and help desk technicians.
  • Extensive experience with security as it pertains to network architecture, desktops, laptops, servers, firewalls, routers, and intrusion detection systems (IDS).
  • Experience with USAF IT environment and networks.
  • Must have good communication skills and an ability to conceptualize network infrastructures.
Preferred Education and / or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Cisco certification
Security Clearance:
TS/SCI is required.
