Description

The Chief Health Services Officer (CHSO) provides leadership, program management, and strategic vision to Independent Living’s Wellness and Life Enrichment Program, four licensed facilities, and a Hospice Program at a two-campus Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)/Life Plan Community (LPC) in San Antonio, TX. Blue Skies of Texas provides all levels of care for 1,000 senior living residents in independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care and hospice. The CHSO supports two medically focused boards and one committee (Alzheimer’s Care and Research Center Foundation Board, Health Services Corporation Board, and the Medical Committee). Maintaining high standards and inspection ratings is important to the success of the larger organization.

This is a senior management position requiring a wide range of administrative and professional skills. With broad guidance from the President & CEO, the incumbent is expected to work independently, exercise mature judgment, and demonstrate sound communication skills. Analytical rigor and fact-based problem-solving are a necessity. Maintaining a professional image and positive attitude while dealing with prospective clients, residents, staff, and board members is key. The CHSO is also a key member of the senior leadership team and participates in decision making and strategic planning for the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plans and implements strategy to meet evolving health and wellness needs of residents.
  2. Responsible for advising the board of directors, the CEO, and Human Resources on employee health.
  3. Scans internal and external environment to identify trends or issues which could affect operations and initiates appropriate strategic actions.
  4. Researches and explores new lines of business and develops (with assistance from consultants as necessary) pro forma evaluations.
  5. Identifies opportunities for improvement, financially and organizationally, and takes action as appropriate.
  6. Develops budgets and processes to meet and or exceed financial goals.
  7. Develops health and wellness leadership staff and oversees their growth to achieve greatest resident and family satisfaction as well as employee satisfaction and program development.
  8. Maintains compliance with local, State, and Federal regulations.
  9. Monitors quality indicators and initiates appropriate actions based on reports.
  10. Prepares and delivers reports and presentations to the CEO and governing Board of Directors.
  11. Identifies opportunities to improve relationships with external health care services, resulting in improved outcomes for Blue Skies of Texas’ residents and program goals and objectives.
  12. Develops network with local supporting businesses and appropriate professional and governmental organizations and seeks out and accepts leadership opportunities within professional organizations that support advocacy and business.
  13. Act as a liaison between research and educational institutions; identifies opportunities to enhance relationships and programming efforts to achieve quality outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
  14. Coordinates administration/distribution of the Mary Opal Wolanin (Nursing) Scholarship Program.
  15. Works closely with other executive leaders to enhance the continuum of care.
  16. Commitment to customer service with customer satisfaction.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Healthcare. The CHSO should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a leader in the field of long-term care, preferably in continuing care retirement/life-plan communities, as well as experience in organizational management, staff management, fiscal management, strategic planning processes and goal setting, and new program development and implementation. Must possess basic knowledge of general accounting principles.
Preferred: Master’s degree in health care administration or business.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS:

Preferred: A clinician in good standing. Registered Nurse in the State of Texas preferred. Licensed Nursing Facility Administrator or Assisted Living Administrator is desirable.
