Principle Responsibilities
Supervise and lead participants on class 1-3 white water ensuring a safe, fun experience
Remain calm in stressful situations
Facilitate a 5-day white water experience in the New River Gorge
Participate and implement Leave No Trace principles
Provide leadership to implement youth development and transformational experiences
Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe working area
Assist logistics drivers with loading and unloading gear
Enact and conduct safety protocols if needed for on the river emergencies
Other duties or projects as assigned by SBR leadership
Abide by policies and procedure outlined in the SBR staff handbook
Qualifications & Training
18 years of age or older
Must pass training to become a documented river guide (training is provided)
Must be able to obtain Wilderness First Aid (training is provided)
Required : Strong swimmer
Preferred : Whitewater and / or camping / trekking experience
Ability to use Microsoft Teams daily for work related communication and coordination
Be or become a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America
Performance Results
Assist all participants to complete the New River Experience
Regularly show appreciation to coworkers via written and verbal methods
Participate in team activities
Physical Requirements
Up to 8 hours a day of either standing, paddling, hiking, and the ability to lift 75 lbs.
