Here are some responsibilities for a potential Director of Payroll: 

  • Oversees all facets of daily operations of the payroll department, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and company policies and regulations.
  • Develop and implement payroll policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Oversee the processing of payroll for all employees, including salary, wages, bonuses, and deductions, in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including withholding, reporting, and remittance requirements.
  • Ensure accurate payment and reporting of all employee benefits, in compliance with the provision of tax laws, federal/state regulations and company policy.
  • Manage payroll audits and resolve any discrepancies or issues identified during the audit process.
  • Oversee and ensure accuracy with payroll billback process
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in payroll laws and regulations and communicate implications to relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead and mentor the payroll team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Collaborate with HR, Accounting, and other departments to address payroll-related inquiries, issues, and initiatives.
  • Prepare payroll-related reports and analysis for management and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Any other duties assigned. 

As the ideal candidate, your background includes: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; CPP certification preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in payroll administration, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
  •  Deep understanding of payroll processes, tax laws, and regulations, including FLSA, IRS regulations, and state/local tax requirements.
  • Experience with payroll billback practices and process
  • Proficiency in payroll software and systems, with experience implementing and optimizing payroll technology solutions. Experience with Paycom preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex payroll issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate payroll-related information to diverse audiences.
  • Proven leadership ability, with experience managing and developing a team of payroll professionals.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality, with a commitment to maintaining the security and confidentiality of payroll data.
  • Background and credit check, pre-employment drug screening, and employment verification required.
