Job Description:
As the Director of Labor & Delivery, you will organize, direct, and supervise the functions of the OB unit encompassing five Labor & Delivery rooms, 15 postpartum beds, and a one bed level 2 nursery (NICU). This includes policy and procedures are followed; safe staffing levels are maintained; supplies and equipment are at sufficient levels; and efficient patient throughput is managed. Our Director will also develop, implement, and manage the department budget and engage in ongoing quality and performance improvement, invests in lifelong learning for staff professional development and assures employees complete all required annual competencies. Communicates important information to the CNO and other senior leadership members as needed.
Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the labor and delivery unit, ensuring efficient workflow and patient care.
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures to maintain high standards of care, safety, and patient satisfaction.
  • Managing staffing levels, including hiring, training, and scheduling of nurses, physicians, and support staff.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, such as obstetricians, anesthesiologists, and neonatologists, to coordinate patient care and ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Monitoring and evaluating patient outcomes and quality metrics, and implementing improvements as necessary.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, such as those set forth by governing bodies like The Joint Commission and state health departments.
  • Participating in strategic planning and budgeting for the labor and delivery unit, including resource allocation and equipment procurement.
  • Serving as a liaison between staff, administration, and other departments within the hospital or healthcare system.
  • Providing leadership and support to staff members, fostering a positive work environment, and addressing any issues or concerns that arise.
  • Staying abreast of advancements in obstetrics, labor management, and maternal-fetal medicine to facilitate evidence-based practice and innovation within the department.
Education and Experience: :
  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Master's degree is (preferred)
  • Knowledge of community hospital and midwifery model (preferred)
  • Experience with level 2 nursery / NICU (or above) (preferred)
License and Certifications:
  • Registered Nurse in North Carolina or Compact state is required
  • BLS required
  • Minimum of 2 years in a Director-level required
