Brown Caldwell is Hiring an Electrical or Instrumentation and Controls Engineering Intern Near Seattle, WA

Brown and Caldwell’s Seattle offices are seeking an Electrical or Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineering Intern to join our growing and passionate team. As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will support the design of electrical equipment upgrades for low and medium voltage power distribution systems and development of power system studies for arc flash hazards analysis. As an I&C Engineering Intern, you will support the design, testing, and start-up of industrial process automation control systems for municipal water/wastewater projects. Our I&C Engineers come from a variety of backgrounds including electrical, chemical, and mechanical engineering with an emphasis on process controls and automation.

Work Location and Schedule: Interns are expected to be in Brown and Caldwell’s offices (in person) at least three days a week and have the option of working remotely two days a week. Interns will work full time (40 hours a week).

Detailed Description:

  • Work closely with project managers, design engineers, and other team members to execute work for drinking water, wastewater treatment, and conveyance infrastructure design projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of electrical or I&C engineering design deliverables including calculations, technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and data analysis.
  • Support municipal water and wastewater clients with pre-design tasks and alternative analysis.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines (drafters, designers, and other engineers).
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications to support engineering services during construction for water and wastewater projects.
  • Conduct occasional field work as necessary to support project design or construction.
  • Successfully manage and deliver assignments on time.
  • Adhere to Brown and Caldwell’s QA/QC process.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Junior or Senior student attending university working on obtaining a Bachelor of Science in electrical (for electrical or I&C intern position) or in chemical or mechanical (for I&C intern position), environmental, or related engineering field required; graduate students may also be considered.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm and skills for collaborating in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and basic computer skills. Experience with Bluebeam Revu or similar PDF editor is preferred.
  • Strong technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts.
  • Self-starter, results-oriented, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability and willingness to perform occasional field work at various local sites.
  • Strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems.

Being authorized to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment for this role, as sponsorship is unavailable.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $17.80- $24.50

Location B: $19.60- 26.90

Location C: $21.40- 29.40
