Broward County is Hiring an Equipment Operator, Senior Near Pompano Beach, FL

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Equipment Operator, Senior (Highway & Bridge Maintenance Division).

The Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD) maintains and improves the County's roadway system, operates and maintains drawbridges, and oversees mosquito control operations. HBMD is responsible for cleaning and mowing rights-of-way, street patching and resurfacing, intersection improvements, canal maintenance and construction, guardrail maintenance, bridge maintenance, street cleaning, and storm-water drainage improvements.
This position requires skilled heavy construction equipment operation involving the maintenance and repair of streets, bridges, and related components such as sidewalks, bridges, guardrails, and drainage system improvements. The ideal candidate has experience in construction, must be able to safely operate large construction equipment and trucks and be proficient in the use of some of the following construction equipment: bulldozer, backhoe, front-end loader, skid-steer loader, gradall excavator, excavator, vacuum truck, industrial street sweeper and other construction equipment as assigned. Additional duties include completing daily paperwork and work-orders.Must show proficiency on all assigned pieces of equipment within six (6) months of employment. 
General Description
Performs skilled work and supervision in the operation of large vehicles.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires two (2) years of experience operating heavy construction equipment in a maintenance environment such as a bulldozer, backhoe, front-end loader, skid-steer loader, gradall excavator, excavator, vacuum truck, industrial street sweeper or closely related experience.  
Special Certifications and Licenses
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class B or higher for duration of appointment.
Preferences
* Associate's or Vocational degree in heavy equipment operation, or closely related field.* Bachelor's Degree in relevant field.* State of Florida issued Class "A" Commercial Driver's License.* Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification.* Broward County Certificate of Competency or State certification for related roadway construction.* Storm-water Certification.* FDOT Asphalt or Concrete Inspector Certification.* At least two (2) years of experience with asphalt, drainage, guardrails or concrete construction on roadways. 
* At least two (2) years of experience operating bulldozer, backhoe, front-end loader, skid-steer loader, gradall excavator, and excavator.
* At least two (2) years of experience operating vacuum-truck or industrial street sweeper. * At least two (2) years of maintenance and repair experience with bridges. * At least two (2) years of experience of debris management under declared emergencies. 

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Transports construction equipment using a lowbed semi-trailer; operates tractor-trailer and tandem trucks in local hauling tasks; loads and unloads vehicles as required; operates heavy duty road roller in resurfacing and roadway construction; operates front-end loader or small tractor rigged with hydraulic loading lift and back hoe digging shovel; operates tractor and "bush hog" for mowing roadway shoulders and removing vegetation from drainage ditches; operates sweeper truck for cleaning roadways; may operate smaller earth moving equipment such as small bulldozers and bobcats.

Performs operator pre-checks on equipment; checks lubricants, cooling systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems; makes necessary minor adjustments and reports malfunctions to supervisor.

Supervises labor crew with assigned tasks or acts as sub-foreman on landscape or construction jobs.

Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery.
