The Broward Sheriff's Office is now offering condensed testing for out of area candidates. Human Resources will schedule and coordinate the selection process within a short time frame to minimize travel. Applicants are responsible for all travel expenses. An evaluation of foreign high school diploma may be required.Must not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement as an adult. All other arrests and convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. All candidates must have good moral character as determined by a background investigation (F.S.S. 943.13). If ever arrested, candidates must submit official court documents and police reports with the application. A written statement explaining the arrest and the outcome must also be attached to the application for review. Official court documents can be obtained from the Clerk of the Court in the county in which the incident occurred. Documents must be submitted with your application.Must successfully pass the Corrections Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) or Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT) prior to submitting an application. Test results must be submitted with the application.Must successfully pass the BASIC MOTOR SKILLS test prior to submitting an application. Test results must be submitted with the application.If claiming Veteran's Preference, candidates must provide a DD214 Member 4 form to the online application. Must possess and maintain throughout employment, a valid Florida driver license without any restrictions affecting job performance. Driver license must show current address. All candidates must submit with the application, a Certified Department of Motor Vehicles "entire" driving history.Florida driving histories can be obtained at any courthouse in Broward County. Three year, 7 year, and online Florida driving history records will not be accepted. If you have possessed a driver's license in any other state in the past 10 years you will need to submit an "entire" driving history from that state. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
This is entry level work which provides the opportunity for practical experience and broad exposure to the fundamentals of detention functions within the Department of Detention of the Broward County Sheriff's Office. Work involves attending a Corrections Academy intended to provide preparatory training for a career in detention. Position participates in training programs and performs varied routine and technical non-sworn tasks in support of sworn detention functions. Employees in this classification receive supervision and administrative direction from a supervisor. Emphasis is placed on training the incumbent for continued employment within the agency. Performs related work as directed.All cadets attending the Broward College Institute of Public Safety must successfully attain a minimum score of 75% on at least one Physical Profile test. Failure to attain the 75% score on one of the Physical Profile tests will result in the cadet's removal from the Academy and potential separation of employment from BSO.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Applicants who qualify will be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to evaluation of training and experience; written test; computer based test; interview; polygraph examination; psychological evaluation; employment record, fingerprint and background check; medical examination; and drug screen. The expected duration of the selection process varies by position and could last 10 to 12 weeks. Reapplication will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
