The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Maintenance Worker in the Facilities Management Division.

Under close to general supervision, employee performs a variety of maintenance, grounds keeping and custodial related work by efficiently using the necessary tools and equipment according to established safety and process procedures .
As part of routine maintenance, employee performs tasks such as, but not limited to, changing and crushing light bulbs; installing/replacing ceiling tiles, door stops, various paper product dispensers and soap/hand sanitizer dispensers; hanging pictures, plaques and other related items; and moving all types of furniture and miscellaneous items.
As part of routine grounds keeping, employee performs tasks such as, but not limited to, pulling weeds, trimming plants, mowing grass, removing dead/dying plants, installing new plants, watering plants and collecting and disposing of trash and other debris from the grounds.
As part of routine custodial duties, employee performs tasks such as, but not limited to, cleaning break rooms, electrical/mechanical rooms, office areas, parking lots, restrooms and sidewalks. Cleaning includes dusting, mopping, pressure washing, sanitizing, sweeping, vacuuming and wet wiping various surfaces in and around buildings to remove dirt, grime or other undesired debris, including human waste and fluids.
During routine work employee checks for other maintenance issues. Identified issues are reported to employee's supervisor and/or are repaired, depending on the complexity of the issue and the guidelines established by the division.
Employee interacts frequently with other Broward County employees, state employees and members of the public and must have good verbal communication skills.
General Description
Performs a variety of general building and grounds related maintenance and repairs at an assigned facility.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires three (3) months of experience in general building maintenance and cleaning, or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.

Maintains grounds and landscape areas in order to ensure that grounds and landscape areas are presentable, clean, and safe.
Performs a variety of facility maintenance work in order to ensure a clean, safe environment for the public and County employees, minimize major repair/replacement costs, and/or extend the useful life of equipment/fixtures.
Cleans offices, break rooms, restrooms, halls, shop areas, pavilions, sidewalks, in order to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for the public and other staff; moves a variety of furniture and related items in order to relocate/rearrange work stations/offices, set up for meetings, activities, and events.
Interacts with the public and/or other County employees in order to give directions/information, explain work activities/procedures, identify their service needs, and/or resolve day-to-day operational issues.
Sets out temporary traffic control devices at the work site in order to provide a safe work environment and facilitate safe, efficient traffic flow.
Prepares a variety of log sheets in order to document work activities, track equipment usage, and provide summary information to management.
Maintains a variety of landscape and construction related equipment in order to ensure that the equipment operates safely and appropriately when needed, extend the useful life of the equipment, minimize down time, and minimize major repair/replacement costs.
Performs related work as assigned.
Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals.
