LPN-BCCS School Program Marcus Ave New Hyde Park location Mon-Fri 21hrs flex 

Brookville Center for Children’s Services is an Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS) approved and licensed Day Care Program. Children are afforded an enriching experience and adhere to the New York State Standards of Early Childhood Learning. Activities such as music, arts and crafts, language, motor, pre-academic and technology are taught by appropriately credentialed staff. Brookville Center is a 2015-2016 School of Excellence by the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET). This honor is presented to private special education schools that meet rigorous professional criteria and have demonstrated truly exceptional dedication, commitment and achievement in the field of special education.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed as an LPN by the NYS Department of Education
  • Minimum one (1) year experience working with pediatric population (infancy through adolescence).
  • Knowledge and experience in Broviac Management.
  • Vent-dependent, respiratory treatment including nebulizer,
    postural drainage, post coma recovery, suctioning, shunt management, ostomy
    management, medication administration, emergency medical
    care and seizure management preferred.

Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

Fulfill all Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) functions as needed in a special education environment
in an appropriate and professional manner.

STANDARD 1: Implementation of regulations under direction of R.N.

a. Safekeeping medication needed to be taken by children; dispensing medications as per direction on prescription, tube feeding, catheterizations. To administer oxygen when needed, suction nebulizer treatments, ostomy care and bronchial pumps.
b. Assists in the development and implementation of appropriate strategies for intervention as per child’s IEP or IFSP.
c. Complete and maintains all required paperwork in an appropriate and timely manner.

STANDARD 2: Student Care under direction of R.N.

a. Prioritize and implement daily student care within program utilizing nursing theory and knowledge of program function.
b. Plan and implements staff education, as needed, on a variety of nursing and health care topics within program, seizure management, chocking…
c. Adhere to standards of care guidelines and procedure protocols.

STANDARD 3: Record Keeping.

a. Record keeping of student physical and medication orders updated yearly and when needed.
b. Completes and document all first aid treatments and exposure to communicable disease.
c. Tracking and documentation of immunization records, health history, medical authorization and medical information.
d. Participate in the daily attendance procedure. Call student’s home after three (3) days absence and alert School District (school age students) if absent five (5) days; for preschool program call student’s home on a daily basis.

STANDARD 4: Professional Behavior

a. Cooperate and conduct self at all times in a professional manner appropriate to a special education setting.
b. Adhere to specific program policies and procedures.
c. Perform other related duties as assigned.
d. Appropriate nursing attire.

STANDARD 5: Professional Development

a. Maintenance of nursing expertise via participation in continuing education. Attend outside workshops.
b. Adhere to specific program policies and procedures.

STANDARD 6: Coordination with management and peers.

a. Appropriately and tactfully directs staff in the necessary implementation of health care, universal precautions, etc. Collaborate with peers and supervisory staff in an appropriate manner. First aid for staff members and documentation.
b. Complete injury forms as required for students and staff.
c. Maintain student confidentiality.
d. Perform other related duties, as required.

STANDARD 7: Adhere to general policies of the organization/regulators including:

a. Code of Ethical Conduct.
b. Emergency/disaster preparedness protocols.
c. Fire/Safety prevention protocols.
d. Departmental in-service education program requirements.
e. Policies and procedures (attendance, punctuality, appearance, professional attitude, etc
f. Communicate with physicians, hospital, parents, outside agency staff and social worker regarding medical status students. Make referrals to appropriate health/medical specialists when needed.
g. Job related self-development education activities.
h. Infection control practices and procedures.
i. Complete PPD’s on all staff on a yearly basis and all newly hired staff as needed. Offer Hepatitis B vaccine to staff.

STANDARD 8: Perform other related duties, as required.

a. Demonstrate understanding of the needs of children and visitors for each specific group.
b. Address safety and psychological needs of the special age groups, as appropriate, in the performance of work activities.
c. Address the special needs of special groups, hearing impaired, physically challenged and various issues relating to program and facility.
d. Maintain child and family confidentiality.
e. Is consistently courteous and considerate, in person and on the telephone, in interactions with children and others such as family, visitors, vendors, and other employees.
f. Demonstrate compassionate, caring and respectful behavior towards the children, family and visitor.
g. Exhibit the “At Your Service” attitude, i.e., smiles, uses positive eye contact, and is friendly, open and approachable.
h. Respond quickly to child and/or significant other’s refers to appropriate member of the care team, if necessary, and informs supervisor of actions taken.
i. Promote positive co-workers relationships, teamwork and cooperation. Works collaboratively and is respectful of others.
j. Take individual responsibility for providing outstanding Service Quality.
