Brooksource is hiring an experienced Electrical Engineer to join the Demand Side Operations team at one of our largest Energy/Utilities clients. In this role, you will be supporting the engineering required to assess, analyze, and recommend technical specifications for the development of hardware and software systems needed to monitor the real-timeN-1 secure transmission limit. You will also work to develop specification and a sustainable means to automate the transmission of the load curtailment control signals for the load shedding actions for the Emergency Management System (EMS) to the Distribution Management System (DMS) down to the participant’s equipment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

• 5 years of relevant engineering experience (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)
• Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles, specifically in power systems.
• Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
• Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
• Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
• In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to develop and/or manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable various software programs, including developing and/or managing algorithms.
• Ability to interpret and apply codes, practices, and regulations in engineering designs.
• Strong planning, forecasting, organizational and project management skills.
• Strong ability to productively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Electric Transmission experience.
• Experience with demand side operations.
• Knowledge of EMS and DMS.
• Knowledge of telemetry systems.
• Knowledge of major utility data flows including meter consumption, outages, and power quality.
• Knowledge of control signals.

Your Responsibilities:

• Support the engineering required to assess, analyze, and recommend technical specifications for the development of hardware and software systems needed to monitor the real-time N-1 secure transmission limit.
• Work to develop specification and a sustainable means to automate the transmission of the load curtailment control signals for the load shedding actions for the Emergency Management System (EMS) to the Distribution Management System (DMS) down to the participant’s equipment.
• Incorporate and ensure company regulatory policies are accounted for in all specification application design.
• Work to develop operating procedures for hardware and software applications.
• Implement process and procedures to ensure alerts and warnings are issued to key stakeholders and actions are initiated accordingly.
• Survey customer equipment for the design of the control hand-off between DMS and the customer.
• Support training efforts for Dominion and non-Dominion customers, as needed.
• Monitor and research industry trends related to load curtailment / demand side operations. Engage in various industry forums (ex., IEEE, CIGRE, NATF, SEE, etc.) to stay abreast of demand side management trends and technologies
• Provide technical expertise and/or technical leadership, as needed.
• Provide 24x7 technical support and rotational coverage of the program to ensure reliable operations.
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $120,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
