CARPENTER FOREMAN

Your role is to plan, organize, supervise, and perform high-level rough and finish carpentry in the alteration and construction of buildings, and specialty wood items; perform related work.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Supervise a crew of 3-4 carpenters involved in detailed aspects of the carpentry trade.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Supervision: Typical responsibilities: reviews project plans, blueprints, and designs jobs with individuals requesting work; estimates time, material, equipment, and supplies needed; develops work schedules and crew assignments; inspects work areas to ensure job is being completed as designed; evaluates staff performance; accident reports, and change orders; trains staff in related work assignments; maintains records of operation; monitors inventories and requests supplies and equipment; ensures work areas are properly maintained; as well as facilitating the training of subordinates in carpentry tasks. Keep your team's morale high. Use positive feedback to help the grow and learn new tasks. You are responsible for the progression of the project, keep your team moving forward.

2. Carpentry: Typical responsibilities: performs rough and finish carpentry including building additions and remodels, cabinets and special products; builds and patches roofs; installs floors and wall coverings, ceiling material, paneling, plastic laminates, and hardware; repairs broken windows, doors, walls, ceilings; installs door jambs, and hangs metal and wood doors; finishes walls with wood, structural metal; repairs/replaces railings, handrails, stair treads, nosings, and gratings; builds platforms, podiums, partitions, ramps, and fences; installs insulation and weather stripping; maintains and repairs machinery, tools, and equipment used in the carpentry trade; installs towel racks, dispensers, pictures, and curtains; may paint and/or stain. 

3. Safety: Ensure supervised employees are using proper safety equipment and following proper industry standard safety practices. Inform superintendent of any shortages of safety equipment and maintenance issues with equipment. Maintain a clean work environment free of hazards and debris. Sweep and clean jobsites daily.

4. Equipment: Maintain a clean and orderly job trailer. Maintain all assigned equipment in the job trailer. Report any equipment and supply shortages to superintendent as soon as they are noticed. Maintain a log of items as they are used from inventory to submit as shortages.

5. Reports: Complete daily progress reports on Buildertrend. Include pictures of work completed along with descriptions. Report any interactions with the homeowner that may need to be passed on to the superintendent and/or project manager. Ensure that work performed by subcontractors matches the plans/scope of work as written.

6. Customer Interactions: You are one of the customer's points of contact on the job site.
