Description

Museum Maintainer -- Carpentry Shop

Requirements:

  • Five (5) years full-time paid experience as a carpenter/cabinet maker.
  • Knowledge of woodworking, construction and related building maintenance including use of hand and power tools or experienced with wood working machinery as well as hand tools, including pneumatic nailers and staplers, knowledge of blueprints reading and safe work practices.
  • Ability to work from drawing and specs to build cases, pedestals, and other items required for Museum exhibits, galleries, buildings and ground.
  • Knowledge of door hardware installation, repair and glazing.
  • Must be able to work safely from high ladders and scaffolds and handle all kinds of construction tools and materials.
  • Ability to lift and transport heavy parts or equipment, up to 100 pounds.
  • Osha 30-hour training for construction industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs independent work under the supervision of carpentry foreman including but not limited to general maintenance and repair work of Museum building and contents and construction of frames, pedestals, cases, vitrines, platforms, walls, ceilings, and other structures required for galleries, exhibits, grounds, offices, and other spaces.
  • Repairs and installs walls, ceilings, doors, floors, locks, windows, office furniture, exhibit furnishings, and other objects as required.
  • Maintains high quality of individual work. Requires wearing safety equipment and PPE on job.
  • Works in manner consistent with requirements for protection of the Museum and its contents, the safety and well-being of its occupants, and Museum rules.
  • Responds when required to protect property during emergencies.
  • May be called from time to time to assist in related work. Will be required to work overtime as needed.
  • Responsible for keeping the shop area clean and safe.
  • Will be required to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Will be required to construct furniture, office fixtures and make repairs to the building.
  • Assist handyman with general maintenance and repairs.

Salary: $59,265.85 annual with benefits.
