Brooklyn Academy of Music is Hiring an Associate Director, Front of House Operations Cinema Near Brooklyn, NY

Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a multi-disciplinary arts center located in Brooklyn, New York. For more than 150 years, BAM has been the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas—engaging both global and local communities. With world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more, BAM showcases the work of emerging artists and innovative modern masters.

Reporting to the Director of Film Operations, the Associate Director, Front of the House Operations - Cinema will oversee a team of employees, providing them with scheduling, constructive feedback, information, and guidance. They will be responsible for keeping the team motivated and performing at its best and ensure that patrons have a welcoming experience at the BAM Rose Cinema. They will also take a leadership role in the successful execution of weekly film department events and supervise cinema front of house operations daily.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate clear expectations to staff including staff schedules, performance goals, and individual responsibilities
    • Ensure goals are met through strong personnel management.
    • Schedule personnel on a weekly basis to ensure sufficient staffing and coverage; manage time off requests and payroll approvals
    • Offer consistent and frequent feedback and encourage a culture of mutual staff respect, support, and accountability
    • Lead on customer service training staff to training and supporting staff to resolve customer service issues effectively
    • Cultivate staff onboarding and trainings
    • Provide conflict resolution interventions for staff with a restorative perspective
    • Open and/or close the cinemas, and provide shift support based on schedule needs
    • Oversee the hiring, onboarding, and terminations of cinema front of house staff
  • Work with the Film, Rentals, General Management, and Production teams in the planning of events utilizing the cinemas.
  • Oversee the successful execution of 3-4 events each week in the cinemas, including talkbacks and discussion.
    • Serve as a liaison for such events with external and internal partners
    • Ensure successful staffing for such events

Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • At least 3 years of experience directly supervising a team utilizing change management skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with Tessitura (preferred)
  • Ability to track and accomplish multiple projects simultaneously and in a timely manner
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions

  • Requires the ability to climb stairs, stand for long periods, and lift/carry 10-15lbs objects.

  • Please note this position is almost exclusively on-site. A typical work week will be a mix of weekdays afternoons/evenings, and some weekend event supervision. Schedule will vary week-to-week based on activity.

Compensation: The salary for this position is $75,000 - $78,000 per year. This position is full-time, exempt, and eligible for benefits. BAM provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan opportunities including both 401(k) and pension plans, as well as BAM-related benefits including access to BAM's fantastic programming.
