Brookline School District is Hiring a Middle School Teacher for Substantially Separate Winthrop House program Near Brookline, MA

The Public Schools of Brookline is seeking an experienced general education teacher to join a collaborative team of educators as part of the 6-8 Winthrop House Program, a district-run substantially separate therapeutic middle school program. Candidates should have experience working with students that have primary social/emotional disabilities that impact school attendance, self regulation, social communication and executive functioning skills.

Job Summary:

  • Lead teacher; Responsible for instruction across core content areas.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Create instructional resources for use in the classroom
  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities
  • Meet required goals for students with IEPs or 504 plans
  • Create positive educational climate for students to learn in
  • Meet course and school-wide student performance goals
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions
  • Create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year
  • Maintain grade books
  • Grade papers and perform other administrative duties as needed
  • Create projects, visuals, supports designed to enhance direct instruction
  • Build positive relationships with all families
  • Read and stay abreast of current topics in education
  • Create lesson plans
  • Utilize various curriculum resources
  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans
  • Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served
  • Develop professional relationships with colleagues
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Prepare and distribute required reports
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures

Required Qualifications:

  • Mass. DESE certification, 5-8 licensure in Mathematics and/or Science
  • SEI Certification
  • Belief in our mission and core values

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience at the middle school level
  • Duel certification, moderate special education 5-12 
  • Experience/training with Responsive Classroom, Guided Reading, Writer’s Workshop, Differentiated Math/Math Workshop
  • Master’s Degree
