The school psychologist administers psychological diagnostic tests; has comprehensive, insightful diagnostic skills, interprets a variety of informal and formal special education assessments, has knowledge of specific approaches and tools to help students, teachers and families better deal with all factors which interfere with the learning process, has experience working collaboratively to address student needs, writes IEPs and collaborates in IEP meetings, and has a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of child development. Basic background in neuropsychology and experience with children with diagnoses along the autism spectrum a plus. The successful psychologist has a strong understanding of when further evaluations may be beneficial, has the ability to communicate effectively with parents and outside agencies to support student learning, has an appreciation for students from diverse family and socioeconomic situations, strong written and verbal communication skills, an open-mind, sense of humor and the ability to calmly approach stressful situations.
