Brookline Public Schools is Hiring a Music Teacher 4th through 8th Grade Instrumental, Band and Conservatory Program Near Brookline, MA

Job Description:

The Public Schools of Brookline seeks a full time (1.0FTE) music teacher to work at multiple schools in our 4th through 8th grade Conservatory program. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated educator to inspire, foster creativity, and instill a love of music in our students. This position offers an exciting opportunity to nurture students’ talents and cultivate a lifelong passion for music. We are looking for a collaborative and creative educator who is committed to providing high-quality instruction and creating enriching experiences for students of all backgrounds, experience levels and abilities in our robust music program.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach 4th grade instrumental classes in one or multiple wind, brass or percussion instruments
  • Teach 5th grade band classes consisting of wind, brass and percussion
  • Teach mixed-grade 6th through 8th grade band classes consisting of wind, brass and percussion
  • Teach one or more 6th through 8th grade Conservatory classes other than band, which may include Music Production (digital music class using a DAW), Guitar/Ukulele Ensemble, Music Exploration (middle school general music class)
  • Follow and adapt a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with state standards and meets the needs and interests of students, differentiating to reach and support all students
  • Maintain safe and efficient classroom spaces including the setup and breakdown for band and instrumental classes
  • Attend Performing Arts Department meetings and participate in the greater school community
  • While this position is currently focused on the above areas, we also have a strings and orchestra program and welcome candidates with strings experience (but not required)

Required Qualifications:

  • Instrumental music teaching and/or performance experience
  • Ability to teach one or multiple band instruments (wind, brass and/or percussion)
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and assess learning using a variety of methods
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to creating and maintaining an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families
  • Reflective practitioner with a growth mindset and a willingness to adapt to the evolving needs of students and the school community
  • Ability to reflect on personal learning through the analysis of one’s teaching practice, student learning data, and the teaching practices of others
  • Ability to be open to constructive critique of supervisors, administrators, and colleagues
  • Ability to collaborate with all faculty
  • Ability to travel to multiple schools in the Public Schools of Brookline throughout the school day
  • Massachusetts DESE teacher certification in Music
  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Interest in directing town-wide band (additional stipend)

Reports To:

The K-12 Performing Arts Curriculum Coordinator and school building administrators
