Brookfield Renewable is Hiring an Energy Trading Analyst Near New York, NY

Energy Trading Analyst

Brookfield Renewable is looking for an individual with interest in wholesale energy markets in the Western U.S. The analyst will be responsible for the various functions associated with trading analysis and reporting, developing and maintaining tools for energy market analysis, scheduling of wholesale power positions, and position management.

 The candidate would join the Brookfield Renewable U.S. team as a first-year trading analyst.

The individual will be part of the commercial team, working under the supervision of the Senior Director of Trading for West Markets, and will support various wholesale energy functions within Western U.S. power markets.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and validate physical energy schedules by taking into consideration market fundamentals and transmission related constraints;
  • Assist in and lead the development of various energy market analysis tools; these include product valuation models, portfolio optimization models, position management reports, and wholesale power scheduling applications;
  • Assist the trading team with energy optimization strategies and daily analysis related to market fundamentals, trading and hedging across Brookfield’s Western U.S. portfolio;
  • Develop and maintain existing Tableau and Python based tools to analyze and track trading data and forward positions, forward pricing, basis and volatility curves, and profit and loss analysis/reporting;
  • Respond to internal requests from other functional areas for data analysis and commercial due diligence around potential transactions;

Qualifications

  • Able to meet multiple objectives in a dynamic, fast-paced, team environment;
  • Ability to make decisions involving varied levels of risk and ambiguity;
  • Well organized and ability to synthesize and conceptualize complex ideas;
  • Comfortable working with large data sets;
  • Strong team player with solid analytical skills and strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated initiative;
  • Growth mindset, able to solicit and provide feedback to team members;
  • Familiarity with power systems and/or wholesale energy markets;
  • Knowledge of physical commodities is a plus.

Required Skills and/or Experience

  • Bachelor`s degree in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics or other related discipline;
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel;
  • Knowledge of MS Power BI is a plus;
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python, VB, SQL, etc.) is preferred, especially packages such as Pandas and Numpy;
  • Prior commodities-related internship is a plus.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000
