Responsible for evaluating, treating, and counseling with the pediatric, adult, or geriatric patient with hearing disorders in accordance with professional and corporate quality standards. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in corporate value system and the operating mission, which reflects commitment total quality improvement.
Responsibilities:Conducts hearing and balance valuations for inpatients and outpatients, including neonates, pediatric patients, adolescent, adults, and geriatric patients, and assesses the history, medical diagnosis, social, and communicative condition of the patient through testing and interview to establish a basis for patient treatment.Through history, interview, and formal diagnostic testing, characterizes the perceptual abilities and physiological state of the auditory system in neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Understand otologic and neurological diagnostic processes well enough to obtain audiological information that will help the physician distinguish between competing etiological entities in a given patient. Generates written communications for treating physicians that are timely, clear, and succinct. Understands the theory behind established clinical protocols and can modify diagnostic procedures to meet the needs of the patient without sacrificing test reliability or validity. Has expertise in at least two (2) of the following areas and provides inservice and professional training in it: Infant and pediatric Audiology, diagnostic Audiology, forensic and occupational Audiology, amplification and aural rehabilitation, balance and spatial orientation. Together with the patient and significant other develops a rational treatment and monitoring plan, including the use of amplification, assistive listening devices, aural rehabilitation, and counseling as indicated. Together with other Audiology staff members, develops methods to identify hearing-impaired patients in the hospital and community and facilitates community awareness of hearing impairment and its management. Participates in quality monitoring and evaluation activities and implements measures to ensure hospital JCAHO, and other quality standards are me.Works together with Audiology, other department staff, and administration in sharing and giving information and support as needed in a manner of dignity, respect, and helpfulness as exemplified in the corporate value system, total quality improvement process (TQI), and the organization mission statement
Qualifications:Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A)
Three to five (3-5) years of clinical experience in a medical/hospital setting
New York State License as an Audiologist
