Description & RequirementsJob Description
The Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard is looking for a Research Associate II to join the therapeutic group at the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research. The mission of the Stanley Center is to improve the lives of patients suffering from serious mental illnesses, through groundbreaking basic and translational research. Based on unprecedented insights into the genetic basis of psychiatric diseases, the Stanley Center aims to uncover key disease mechanisms and discover novel therapeutics. The Broad Institute provides a vibrant research environment with close links to MIT, Harvard and the Harvard-affiliated hospitals across Boston.
The successful candidate will gain exposure to a wide variety of multi-disciplinary projects and collaborations while performing exciting work to understand cellular and molecular dysregulation in models of schizophrenia and to develop next-generation therapeutic strategies. The successful candidate should possess a BS or MS in neuroscience, biology or a related field. Previous experience with cell culture and molecular/biochemical techniques is required; prior experience with rodent colony management, brain histology, microscopy and data analysis pipelines is preferred. This position will provide a unique opportunity to contribute to the mission of the Stanley Center while gaining experience in the fields of psychiatric disorders and therapeutics development. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS or MS in neuroscience, immunology, biochemistry, biology or related field.
  • 1-3 year experience of relevant research/laboratory experience.
  • General cell culture and cell based assay experience (eg. maintaining and treating cell lines, primary cells, stem cells).
  • Experience with molecular/biochemical laboratory techniques (eg. Western blotting, qPCR, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, tissue sectioning) is preferred.
  • Experience with standard statistical analyses and data plotting (eg. Excel, GraphPad Prism).
  • Experience with rodent colony management and in vivo work is preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, including ability to handle a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to work independently after training and interact with others.
Why Do Your Research At Broad
  • You can make a difference in biomedicine -- Whether you study the biological basis of cancer or look for the genetic code behind debilitating psychiatric disease, you are laying the groundwork for future therapies that will change lives.
  • You will gain invaluable experience -- You will work closely with a wide network of physicians and scientists. Broad uses state-of-the-art technology and empowers ambitious research efforts - it is truly an experience that is unparalleled by any other biomedical research institution. If you choose to pursue a graduate or medical degree, you will be well prepared for the next stage of your career.
  • You will be supported in your efforts to learn and grow -- Every week there are talks open to the Broad community on a variety of scientific topics, often hinging on results that have not yet been published. Many current RAs rave about the mentorship they have received from other Broadies and the variety of social events that allow them to positively enrich their professional network.
