BriteLife Recovery is a comprehensive substance use treatment facility similarly designed to existing high-end facilities yet is affordable enough for Middle America. The protocol is a unique opportunity for recovery and lifestyle change with a proven mind, body, and spirit approach, experiential and customized to each patient’s needs. We will provide all this without the pitfalls of metropolitan areas and ease of access to narcotics or any mind-altering substances. This is the first site to offer a co-morbidity approach, blended with both proven 12 step and non 12 step intense therapy protocols to treatment. Utilizing the medical model and focusing on a truly medical/therapeutic approach to living with addiction and alcoholism. BriteLife will be the leader in the industry and will set a new standard for treatment and medical protocols at a higher level of client care than previously approached.

Overview of the Position:

The Counselor is responsible for providing confidential addiction counseling, education and support to individuals, families, and for promoting healthy lifestyles and healthy choices. The Counselor will provide clients with the necessary means and motivation for individual growth, and continued recovery from addiction within the framework of BriteLife Recovery’s philosophy and objectives. Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Services, the Counselor will provide addiction services including, but not limited to, assessment, group, individual, and family sessions, and other modalities to clients and their families according to demonstrated competence.

Essential Functions:

  • Job Type: Full Time; hours determined by Facility
  • Facilitate personalized individual, group, and family sessions.
  • Assessing clients using standardized or evidence-based assessment tools and diagnosing clients for substance disorders using the DSM-5 in coordination with the ASAM criteria.
  • Obtaining previous records that are relevant to the current treatment episode.
  • Complete case management assessments in a timely manner.
  • Collaborating with the client in order to develop a written treatment plan that is client-centered and recovery oriented, including goals and measurable objectives.
  • Providing the substance abuse counseling services specified in the client treatment plan.
  • Reviewing clients throughout the treatment episode according to ASAM, to determine the need for continued services or discharge/transfer.
  • Reviewing and, where necessary, revising the substance use counseling portion of the client treatment plan to address emerging problems.
  • Developing the client discharge/transfer plans to ensure movement to the appropriate levels of care.
  • Contacting referral sources, providing case consultation and coordination with referral sources (for example: business development partners, mental health treatment providers, criminal justice agencies, schools, employers, Child Protection Services).
  • Documenting all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals and follow-up in the client's clinical record, providing appropriate signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records in a timely manner. 
  • Collaborate with Case Manager to coordinate client care and discharge/transfer plans.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to clients, as needed.
  • Under direction of supervisor, establish appropriate therapeutic boundaries, utilization of identified clinical resources to review boundaries, limit setting for behavior, and develop therapeutic relations with clients.
  • Assists in monitoring the therapeutic activities with patients, assist other team members as needed.
  • Work directly with the clients and provide proper recovery support.
  • Special Projects as needed.
  • Positively promotes current organization to prospective clients and employees.

Non- Essential Functions:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Professional Requirements:

  • Complete annual education requirements.
  • Maintains standards of professional society procedures and ethical behavior.
  • Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Wear identification while on duty.
  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
  • Communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred CADC, CAADC, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working at a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of DHEC, The Joint Commision Regulations

Competenties - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to assess, plan services, and deliver services to individuals in need of substance misuse treatment.
  • Ability to establish rapport, efficiently gather data, determine the readiness for individual treatment and change, and apply accepted criteria for diagnosis of substance use disorders.
  • Ability to screen for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms. 
  • Ability to screen for danger to self or others
  • Ability to screen for co-occurring mental health issues.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data to determine treatment recommendations and priorities.
  • Ability to formulate mutually agreed-upon, measurable treatment goals and objectives in conjunction with the individual served.
  • Knowledgeable of counseling theories and techniques.
  • Demonstrated adherence to acceptable ethical and behavioral standards of conduct.
  • Participation in continuing Professional Development. 
  • Understands the benefits and limitations of toxicology testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of strategies for treating alcohol and other drug abuse.
  • Knowledge of medication-assisted therapy.
  • Skilled in meeting client needs in keeping with state required staff-to-client ratio.
  • Ability to provide education and information to individuals and groups, through formal and/or informal processes, concerning their substance abuse.
  • Ability to identify client needs that cannot be met by the counselor or agency and assists clients to utilize the support systems and community resources available.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accepted principles of client record management. 
  • Ability to maintain a caseload of 6-8 clients.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs during emergency drills or situations.
