Job Summary:
Under the direction of assigned service leaders, the Assistant Nurse Manager assumes responsibility and accountability for optimal clinical
outcomes. The Assistant Nurse Manager ensures optimal patient/client and family care is being delivered through a fiscally sound and safe
process. The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the shared governance process and staff involvement in related committees and projects and
acts as a clinical nurse advocate. Assistant Nurse Manager supports a healthy workplace environment and empowers collaborative decision
making through a multidisciplinary approach.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Collaborates on developing a Develops schedule of staff 6 weeks and modifies as necessary for unplanned events.
Plans assignments of staff and prioritizes unit needs.
Coordination of appropriate staffing with Operations Nurse Manager / Director related to patient acuity.
Manages the daily schedule to achieve safe, efficient patient care.
Collaborate with Nurse Manager on unit specific administrative responsibilities, e.g., payroll, audits, time.
Participates in unit specific quality improvement initiatives and supports a shared governance model.
Demonstrates high degree of independent problem solving.

Nursing Process: Ensures patient centered care is being delivered at the highest level of practice from each direct care provider.
Utilizes team members by skill levels to assure high quality outcomes for patients and staff members. Plans assignments with appropriate coverage and communicates to Nurse Manager / Director any anticipated concerns.
Anticipates potential problems and assists in problem solving utilizing clinical staff input.
Participates in clinical care as needed to support the unit.
Acts as an advocate and resource for staff.
Works with Nurse Manager / Director for budget understanding and needs and helps the unit adhere and practice within budget guidelines.
Participates in patient care rounds with the multidisciplinary team on a regular basis, with consideration for effective clinical/fiscal management
of care. Rounds on patient population to ensure best practices are being adhered to.
Assists in covering for lunchesmeals or meetings

Nursing Leadership:

Promotes effective integration of system wide and patient care service initiatives into the delivery and management of
patient care. Takes a leadership role in giving expedient, high quality care to both patients and families.
Identifies system’s problems and coordinates resolution utilizing the chain of command and multidisciplinary resources.
Presents constructive feedback to staff. Identifies areas to support reward and recognition within the unit and interprofessional teams and
models leadership behaviors. Leads and motivates employees to achieve Nursing and Organizational Strategic Plan expectations and action plans.
Collaborates effectively with Physicians, supervisors, and other departments.
Demonstrates expert knowledge and skill necessary to promote excellence in care to clinical needs of the patients and staff.

Nursing Research:

Bases nursing judgment on evidence based practice and evidenced based leadership.
Communicates effectively and acts as an information resource regarding unit specific policies and procedures.
Acts as a role model for team members in supporting and complying with evidence based policies and procedures and high reliability culture.
Participates in reviewing and instituting changes in policies based on professional organizations, literature and research findings.
Collaborates in conflict resolution and any disciplinary issues with Nurse Manager/ Director if needed.

Qualifications


Educational / Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited nursing school (minimum two years post-secondary level). BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program required.
State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:
Current State of Connecticut registration as a Registered Nurse. Certification in a specialty area required within 1 year from appointment.
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
General orientation at time of hire. Complete annual and mandatory competencies as assigned.

  • Current State of Connecticut licensure as a Registered Nurse. Certification from a professional nursing body preferred.
  • ACLS preferred upon hire.
  • ACLS offered by Bristol Health within 6 months of hire.
  • ASN is required with the intention of going back to school for a BSN

Physical Requirements:
Physical agility with repetitive occurrence including but not limited to; walking, running, bending, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, kneeling,
crouching, crawling, balancing, reaching, standing, sitting, and twisting. Lifting greater than 50 lbs. repeatedly throughout the work day. Looking
at a computer monitor for up to two hours daily. Vision acuity correctable to normal with normal color perception. Hearing acuity is correctable
to normal. Acute sense of smell for normal perception. Ability to verbalize so that the average person can comprehend.

Work Environment:
Regular exposure to patient elements, stress, rapid pace with multi-tasking skills.
Cognitive Requirements:
Aspiring nurse leaders who can critical think, self-directed and adapt to change. The incumbent will have a desire to manage the service line,
lead the people, promote teamwork and have personal and professional accountability.
Provides direct care according to the established patient plan for care, and delegates care to be given by other staff. Carries out a wide variety
of complete and involved treatments, procedures and examinations requiring professional judgment and initiative; as well as other more routine
nursing care tasks.
