Position Summary:
This position is for Marion, OH
The primary responsibility of the Laboratory Technician is to manage all laboratory specimen procurement and processing at the individual clinical office location. The technician is responsible for identifying patients that are required to provide a specimen, processing of those specimens, and accessioning the patient material. In addition, the technician is responsible for interfacing with the main medical laboratory to ensure proper reporting and documentation of finalized results. The technician works closely with the Director of Laboratory Operations to ensure that all specimen collection devices/supplies and logbooks/documentation are in proper working order and up to date. The Clinical Laboratory Technician is the liaison between their clinical center and the main medical laboratory. All Clinical Laboratory Technicians are trained in phlebotomy and can collect all blood and urine specimens from patients.
Essential Job Duties:
Ensure lab orders are up to date and completed by the ordering medical providers.
Identify patients daily that are required to provide laboratory specimens (blood and/or urine).
Collect all blood and urine specimens from patients and ensure that they are properly processed for transport to the main medical laboratory (including pouring off of urine not needed for testing)
Complete and submit all required prior authorizations for any specimens being sent to the main laboratory.
Process and accession incoming laboratory specimens – including requisition entry, specimen labeling, and specimen transfers.
Update and maintain patient records with appropriate laboratory results and medication lists as is needed.
Prepare requisitions and specimens for laboratory courier transport.
Manage, inventory, and dispose of laboratory specimens and collection devices as is required by law.
Ensure that all biohazard waste is properly disposed of and in compliance with laboratory regulations and restrictions.
Manage all center biohazard waste disposal
Provides customer service and support to the medical and clinical staff – answering questions and coordinating report updates as needed.
Keep laboratory supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
Keep processes operating by following instructions; troubleshooting computer and printer breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
Document information by maintaining daily logs and accession record books.
Resolve problems by examining and evaluating data; selecting corrective steps.
Complete projects by assisting the Director of Laboratory Operations; attending and participating in group and project meetings as needed and working directly with the Operations Director at the specific clinical location.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications, etc…
Work productively in a shared workspace environment where urine specimens are present
Willingness to train in other center roles to provide adequate backup coverage.
Required Education/Degree:
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Required Certification/License:
Training in a formal phlebotomy program including a minimum of 60 hours of didactic training and 60 hours of clinical experience. Must be eligible for certification.
Required Work Experience:
2 years as a phlebotomist, Laboratory specimen collection experience preferred, intermediate level of Microsoft Excel experience required

Problem-solving, technical troubleshooting, time management, multi-tasking ability, ability to work with a diverse team, promote teamwork, and ability to be managed remotely
