Supervisor: Vice President of Laboratory Services
Subordinates: Scientists and Sample Processors
FLSA: Exempt
- Participates in the establishment and maintenance of policies.
- Participates in the establishment of ranges, specimen requirements for tests, and acceptance criteria.
- Assures adherence to Director approved procedures and quality assurance measures.
- Oversees scheduled maintenance, corrective actions, and troubleshooting to assure result quality and performance efficiency through the maintaining of written records.
- Oversees and maintains adequate supply inventories.
- Review all appropriate procedures and undergo validations as necessary in all areas of responsibility.
- Oversees, as necessary, all specimen accessioning and computer log-in/order entry functions and work organization activities.
- Oversees specific quality control functions in accordance with written procedures
- Assures the qualifications and validation of all lab personnel in areas of responsibility, specific tests, and/or workstations.
- Assigns personnel duties as necessary.
- Anticipates and plans proficiency testing of patient samples.
- Assists in the training of employees (laboratory or client) if a new procedure or specimen requirement change is added to lab test menu
- CLIA General Supervisor Requirements
- Supervises all testing activities in assigned areas, manage personnel, and testing activities as necessary.
- Performs actual testing and performs quality control in assigned areas as necessary. Quality control results should be checked against acceptable limits. All patient results should be verified based upon repeat limits set on specific procedures.
- Makes certain all results outside of alarm limits are called to clients and HIPPA requirements on confidentiality are maintained.
- Evaluate test volume versus supply orders to assume adequate inventory.
- Review QC, procedural updates, corrective actions, and maintenance records on a regular basis.
- Review proficiency testing results, taking appropriate corrective action as is necessary.
- Evaluate new technology; plan, justify, and implement new procedures and instrumentation.
- Review and re-write procedures and policies with the approval of the lab director or section technical supervisor.
- Oversee and maintain CLIA and OSHA compliance.
- Communicate all changes to policy and procedures to affected parties.
- Review any incident reports, taking appropriate corrective action.
- Maintain all records required by CLIA for two years or longer (as needed).
- Assure appropriate password protection of confidential patient records in the LIS. Maintain all other patient identifiable results in secure files.
- Carry out any assigned tasks and adjust priorities to comply with the lab director’s requests.
