Bridging Access to Care is Hiring an Employment/Educational Specialist Near Brooklyn, NY

Who is Bridging Access to Care, Inc.: Bridging Access To Care, Inc. (BAC) is a nonprofit, multi-service, community-based behavioral health care organization committed to building healthy communities, one person at a time.

Brooklyn Aids Task Force was the very first HIV/AIDS organization in Brooklyn prioritizing serving persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) since 1986. In 2012, Brooklyn Aids Task Force changed its name to BAC and successfully made the transition from an AIDS-centered organization to a multi-service community-based healthcare organization. Today, BAC provides mental health and substance use-related social services, comprehensive HIV/AIDS care, and coordinated health care and supportive services to under-served racial and ethnic minority communities in the Brooklyn and other parts of New York City.

JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Education/Employment Specialist works with clients to develop realistic, individualized career and/or Education goals that accurately reflect the client's professional skills and interests. As an Employment Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the recruitment, training, and development of our workforce. Your expertise in interviewing, training development, recruiting, and mentoring will contribute to the success of our organization. The Specialist will identify education and/or employment opportunities available for clients within the community and will be responsible for visiting prospective employers, developing employer relationships and making home visits to clients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides individual and group vocational counseling to assist clients in achieving their vocational and career goals.
  • Develops and maintains a wide range of community-based resources to provide training, education, and employment opportunities,
  • Conducts initial assessments of educational and vocational needs during the admission/ orientation phase and develops a preliminary plan of service.
  • Evaluates individuals' abilities, interests, and goals using tests, records, interviews, and professional sources.
  • Ensures all HRA, SSI, and other requirements regarding employability and work readiness are met.
  • Provides post-placement support services to participants who are employed or in training.
  • Completes all paperwork requirements and statistical reporting to ensure program compliance with applicable intergovernmental oversight agencies.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required.
  • Utilizes person-center approach and motivational interviewing to provide assistance to clients to meet their prioritized needs.
  • Other duties as assigned based off the program needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge about the understanding of, and ability to work closely with persons with HIV/Aids and related issues.
  • Knowledge of issues related to substance use, recovery, and mental health.
  • Proven experience in conducting interviews and assessing candidates' qualifications
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple cases.
  • Excellent time-management skills.
  • Intermitted computer literacy to include Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of training development principles and practices
  • Familiarity with recruiting strategies and techniques

EDUCATION

  • MINIMUM: Bachelor’s degree in Human Service or related fields with a minimum of three (3) years of experience serving the targeted population or
  • Master’s degree in Social Work or related fields. (preferred)

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • Experience working with individuals and groups who have barriers to employment.
  • Previous experience working with young adult families preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.38 per hour
