THE POSITION Reporting to the English Language Learning Director, this specific position entails evaluating, instructing, and improving English fluency for the students on his/her caseload. In addition, the staff member will serve as an advisor for a group of students and fulfill all regular duties and commitments required of Bridge Boston staff. Specifically, they will be responsible for:
Assume personal responsibility for the academic progress of all students
Work collaboratively to create and implement a program of study that is intellectually challenging
Work with a diverse staff and student body from Boston and surrounding cities
Sustain a school-wide culture of respect and actively use the school’s behavior system
Work closely with the ELL Director, ELL teachers, and the Senior Director of Academic Support to ensure that the school is in compliance with all ELL requirements and that each child is receiving all of the necessary supports and instruction
Instruct ELL classes and small groups of students
Collaborate with general education teachers/ special education teachers to monitor and report on student progress and identify students who are not making sufficient progress to determine appropriate interventions
Communicate with students’ families on a regular basis
Solicit and welcome critical feedback
Participate in myriad forms of professional development as scheduled for all faculty
Qualifications
BA or BS required; appropriate graduate coursework preferred
2-3 years of teaching experience in a similar setting preferred
Relevant Massachusetts Provisional, Initial, or Professional ESL teaching certification
Sheltered English Immersion endorsement
Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity; belief in the value of diversity
