Bretton Woods Recreation Center Inc is Hiring a Summer Camp Junior Counselor Near Germantown, MD

Summer Camp Junior Counselor

Bretton Woods Recreation Center, Inc. (“BWRC”) is hiring Junior Counselors for our Summer Camp season. This position will work in tandem with the Senior Counselors to ensure the safety of the campers and supervise all daily activities.

Reports to: Summer Camp Director, works closely with Summer Camp Program Director and CIT Director

About Bretton Woods Recreation Center Summer Camps

Bretton Woods has preserved the unique values by which it was founded; values of inclusiveness, respect, transparency, quality, excellence and environmental responsibility through a variety of sports, dining, and social activities in a relaxed, inclusive and family-friendly setting. Most of our members are employees of the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, Inter-Development Bank, International Financial Corporation and International Embassies.

Bretton Woods Camp runs for 10 weeks from June 15th - August 21st. Swimming, arts and crafts, sports, and different choice activities throughout camp allow campers to form friendships, enjoy the world around them and learn more about themselves. Campers range from age 5- 12, and we offer a CIT program for ages 13-15.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers throughout the day
  • Work collaboratively with other Senior and Junior Counselors
  • Be a role model to your campers and the CITs
  • Ensure the safety of campers at all times and maintain attendance
  • Support and encourage campers during activities and challenges
  • Engage with campers during all activities, lunch, and free swim
  • Maintain a high standard of health and safety for all campers
  • Maintain professional and positive interactions with parents during drop off and pick up
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Must submit one (1) letter of recommendation from a non-family member. Upload as the “cover letter” on the job application
  • Strong communication skills and command of the English language
  • Ability to communicate efficiently with others whose first language may not be English
  • Ability to work collaboratively with campers, counselors, and camp directors
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, where change and improvement are always present
  • Reliable transportation to and from BWRC. Public transportation is not available
  • Must pass background checks provided by BWRC
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred
  • Must have a positive attitude and report to work on time
  • Communicate with campers and parents in a courteous manner

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Walk and stand outside in hot, humid weather for extended periods of time
  • Continuous repetitive motions
  • Bending, Crouching, Squatting, Lifting, Carrying
