    Primary Purpose:
    Responsible for the selection and training of qualified School Bus Drivers according to Brenham ISD
    established guidelines and legal requirements. Provides on-going training and performance evaluation
    for all employees, assists the director in administration of the department’s entire safety program.
    Maintains the highest level of ethical behavior with Campus Administrators, fellow employees and our
    community.
    Qualifications:
    Education/Certification:
    High School Diploma or GED
    Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B w/P&S endorsements)
    Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certificate
    Must complete TEEX Training Academy certification program or TAPT program for school bus driver
    instructors within 60 days of employment or first available regional class.
    Must complete the two-day Vehicle Collision Investigation through TASB within one year of employment.
    Must complete Supervisor Training – Drug Detection and Deterrence as required by CFR 49 Part 40
    within one year of employment.
    Must be certified or willing to obtain certification by the Texas Association of Pupil Transportation (TAPT)
    as a Supervisor, Specialist or Trainer.
    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) and transportation related software.
    • Basic math skills, mapping and routing skills.

    • Ability to communicate effectively
    • Knowledge of student discipline procedures
    • Ability to pass bus driver physical exam
    • Ability to operate bus safely
    Experience:
    Two years bus driving experience
    Major Responsibilities and Duties:
    1. Assist the Director of Transportation to develop and implement a twelve month plan that includes
    training a sufficient number of drivers to sustain full employment, through recruitment, training,
    orientation and safety programs.
    2. Proactively recruits individuals to become School Bus Drivers. Instructs selected individuals through
    the successful completion of training and testing to the level of State Certified School Bus Driver,
    training School Bus Drivers according to district guidelines and legal requirements.
    3. Works with the Director of Transportation to implement an approved State “School Bus Driver
    Training Course,” monitoring it and recommending upgrades to the course as necessary.
    4. Responsible for emphasizing the driver’s role and impact on children’s educational performance
    throughout training and orientation.
    5. Refreshes and broadens the driving skills of existing employees who operate BISD owned/leased
    vehicles.
    6. Develops, schedules and performs Driver Field in-service training to meet the needs of BISD.
    Provides ongoing training and performance evaluations for all bus drivers and bus aides.
    7. Performs a Driver Proficiency Evaluation on each driver (including road evaluation) at least once
    during the school year.
    8. Assists the Director of Transportation in managing the Transportation department’s entire safety
    program, including scheduling monthly safety workshops/meetings, administers and maintains the
    department’s safety award programs.
    9. Initiates driver re-training according to BISD guidelines.
    10. Identifies and develops potential candidates for TEEX and or TAPT Training Academy Certification
    program.
    11. Provides initial training and in-service for Safety Trainers, Behind-the Wheel Road Trainers, and
    periodically evaluates their performance.
    12. Coordinates and trains qualified bus drivers for district, regional and state School Bus Road-e-o.
    13. Works with the Director of Transportation to help develop and implement student safety awareness
    programs and coordinates on campus student rider safety training with school personnel.
    14. Documents and maintains all training records as required by State and Federal regulations and BISD
    policies. Files shall be maintained to document the progress of each trainee and all In-Service
    training for each driver in accordance with BISD policy and procedures.
    15. Manages implementation of Risk Management, Safety & Driver Training Programs for all employees
    by providing First Aid Classes, Defensive Driving and other sponsored programs as necessary.
    16. Assists the Director of Transportation in responding to personal injury and vehicle accidents by on
    scene investigation and preparing and submitting reports to Risk Management in accordance with
    BISD Policy.
    17. Schedules periodic school site visits and road observation of drivers to ensure compliance with
    established procedures.
    18. Works with the Director of Transportation to investigate complaints relative to safety issues and take
    corrective action to remedy concern.
    19. Provides safety and training support to the department’s workforce and maintenance personnel.
    20. Attends professional development activities/programs to keep abreast of developments and
    innovations in area of transportation.
    21. Compiles and analyzes monthly and periodic statistical reports of pertinent personal injury and
    vehicle accident data.
    22. Under the direction of the Director of Transportation, administers and maintains BISD random
    drug/alcohol testing and pre-employment drug/alcohol testing program.
    23. Provides notice to drivers of upcoming expiration dates of various documents and ensure their
    renewal (physicals, driver’s licenses, school bus certificates, and First Aid certifications).
    24. Obtains, reviews and monitors Driver Abstracts from state agencies for all driver personnel.
    25. Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for
    records maintenance and learning the record retention schedule for department records.
    26. Perform other duties as assigned.

    conditioned), enduring a bumpy ride and exposure to vehicle fumes, dust, high noise levels and to
    possible injury due to traffic accidents.
    Maintain emotional control under stress. May occasionally work with students with disabilities and/or
    screaming children and may occasionally deal with life threatening emergencies.
    Continual walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, stooping, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing,
    repetitive hand and arm motions, lifting of 45 lbs. or more, talking (announcing streets, radio), seeing
    (traffic lights, inspections, passengers, stopped vehicles, traffic conditions, hearing (traffic sounds,
    emergency vehicles, passengers, radio, mechanical problems).
    Must be physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency doors to evacuate the bus in an
    emergency.
    Due to the nature of the position, being available after hours, weekends, and holidays is required. “On
    call” situations are to be expected.
