Tall Guy and a Grill Catering, an award-winning Milwaukee area caterer, is seeking an energetic and self-motivated Lead Event Chef with a passion for food and cooking. Position Details

Start Date: Immediate

Hours and Location: Part-time. Must be available to work weekends, working on site in the kitchen and off-site catering events.

Starting Pay: $17 to $18/hour plus tips and 1 complimentary meal per shift.

What You Will Do

  • Lead a team of cooks at off-site catering events.
  • Prepare menu items according to our presentation guidelines, with consistent high quality.
  • Maintain quality control of all food items leaving the kitchen. This includes ensuring proper presentation and packing all dish components for full-service events.
  • Ensure all food items are cleaned up and put away properly after events.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen and surrounding areas in accordance with health department standards.
  • Comply with proper food safety and daily cleaning practices.
  • Assist with other duties as necessary or assigned to ensure company, team, and event success.
  • Provide hands-on support at off-site catering events, including set-up and take-down.
  • Manage the storage and organization of all event equipment.
  • Train and oversee event staff, including briefing staff on event schedule, venue logistics, and client special needs.
  • Most importantly, to be treated with respect.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Willing and able to work nights and weekends, as that is when most fully staffed events occur.
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Reliable Transportation to and from work.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Education, degree and/or certificate in food service or related field is a plus, but not required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a professional kitchen setting.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working catered events or in a banquet catering setting.
  • Knowledge of common culinary terms, techniques and ingredients.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal communication, and listening skills.
  • Able to maintain a positive and professional approach with co-workers, as well as clients and guests as necessary, even when under pressure.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills.
  • Self-driven, able to effectively work independently and as a team, and motivated to do a great job.
  • Passionate about serving others and delivering an exceptional experience.
