Reports to: Paving Foreman
Major Role and Purpose:
- Operate a self-propelled machine with either steel drums or solid rubber wheels used for compacting hot mix asphalt
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all federal, local, state and company safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task
- Rides on platform of machine and moves lever, pedals, or throttles to control and guide machine
- Must be able to perform daily checks on equipment (i.e., hydraulic fluid level, greasing, oil levels)
- Use hand tools such as hand shovel, wrench, and screwdriver
- Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned
- High School Diploma / GED
- Previous heavy highway construction experience preferred
- Knowledge of compacting procedures dealing with different asphalt mixes
- Job requires the following motions: stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching and squatting
- Walking or standing may occupy the entire day
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Will be exposed to extremes of heat or cold weather
- Overtime work is required
- Valid Driver's License with transportation to and from job sites
