Job Qualifications:
  1. Paraeducator permit required using one of the following three options:
  1. Completed at least two years of study at an institution or higher learning; OR,
  2. Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; OR,
  3. Demonstrated, through a state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing and mathematics.
  1. Cooperative attitude and superior work ethic for performing in a team-oriented workplace.
  2. Positive experience in working with children.
  3. Computer knowledge is required.
The Department of Education defines "two years of study" as the successful completion of 60 semester hours of college coursework at an accredited institution of higher learning, ideally in the general and educational studies, including reading, writing and mathematics, content and pedagogy.

Paraeducator - Special Education
Job Goal:
Responsible for providing support and assistance to special education student(s) in attainment of IEP goals and educational objectives. The Paraeducator works with and at the direction of the building administration, special education and/or regular education teachers and related service professionals. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community on behalf of student's needs and school goals.

Paraeducator - Special Educaiton - Autism / Independant Learning
Job Goal: Responsible for providing assistance to special education student(s) in attainment of IEP goals and objectives. The paraeducator works with and at the direction of special education and regular education teachers. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele. Paraeducators will assist the teacher of students to introduce and develop new skills and tasks that will enable them to function effectively in society and their environment.

Paraeducator - Special Education - Emotional Support
Job Goal: Responsible for providing assistance to special education student(s) in attainment of Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives. The paraeducator works with and at the direction of ESP special education teachers and the Emotional Support Therapist. The paraeducator will provide support in the implementation of Behavior Support Plans and all other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
  1. Assists in a variety of instructional and related activities with an individual or groups of students as assigned by the teacher.
  2. Assists the teacher in establishing and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  3. Assists in the supervision and monitoring of students through assigned duties, i.e. hallways, lunchroom, and bus duty: ensures appropriate conduct during these periods.
  4. Participates in staff and aide meetings.
  5. Assists student(s) with disabilities in meeting their physical needs in order to benefit from the educational program. Responsibilities include, for example, lifting, toileting, positioning, transferring and feeding.
  6. Monitors activities and behavior of children to ensure their physical and environmental safe keeping, as well as adherence to appropriate conduct and disciplinary controls.
  7. Assists teachers in checking and objectively evaluating progress; teaches children individually and in small groups reinforcing skills based upon instructional guidelines.
  8. Acts as a positive role model for students through appropriate action and dress.
  9. Performs related duties as directed.
Paraeducator - Special Education - Direct Adult Support
Job Goal:
Responsible for providing support and assistance to a specific special education student(s) in attainment of IEP goals and educational objectives. The paraeducator works with and at the direction of the building administration, special education and/or regular education teachers and related service professionals. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community on behalf of the assigned student's needs and school goals.

* NOTE : For this position, the person must be able to perform very heavy work. This means the ability to exert 100 pounds of force occasionally; and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. They will be required to possibly support the weight of a student to prevent them from falling and includes the supervision of the child during toileting activities.
Essential Functions:
  1. Attend to the needs of the student which has necessitated the assignment of a one-on-one aide (i.e. instructional, behavior support, personal hygiene assistance, etc)
  2. Assist with specific activities (i.e. toileting, diapering, bus transition, etc.) with frequency as is necessary.
  3. Assists in a variety of instructional and other related activities with an individual student as assigned by the administration/teacher.
  4. Works closely with the teacher to make sure that the student is progressing towards the educational goals for student achievement as established.
  5. Assists the teacher in establishing and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  6. Assists in the supervision, monitoring and personal support of students through assigned duties, i.e. hallways, lunchroom and bus duty; ensures appropriate conduct during these periods.
  7. Participates in district/school/departmental meetings as deemed appropriate.
  8. Assists student(s) with disabilities in meeting their physical needs in order to benefit from the educational program. Responsibilities will include lifting, toileting, positioning, transferring and feeding and the physical assistance of a student in the case of any emergency situation.
  9. Monitors activities and behavior of children to ensure their physical and environmental safe keeping, as well as adherence to appropriate conduct and disciplinary controls.
  10. Assists teachers in checking and objectively evaluating progress; assists children with support to the educational process individually and in small groups reinforcing skills based upon instructional guidelines.
  11. Attend professional development activities as deemed appropriate.
  12. Acts as a positive role model for students through appropriate personal conduct and professional attire.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.
