The Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) serves as a member of the district’s assessment team and is the primary campus contact for coordinating Special Programs support in the areas of Special Education and 504.

Essential Functions

  • Assist staff in the Response to Intervention process for general education students. Participate in Student Intervention Team (SIT) meetings, as needed.
  • Initiate ARD Guide, Procedural Safeguards, and Notice and Consent for Assessment for referrals at both initial assessment and reevaluation; monitor and document compliance with timelines on all assessments.
  • Select, administer, and interpret assessments, and write assessment reports, for students’ evaluations in accordance with federal regulations, state laws, and local rules, to include interviews, classroom observations, and parental input as needed.
  • Assist with the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to aid in interpreting assessment information, appropriate placement and drafting of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to charter policy.
  • Assist the 504 Committee in interpretation of assessment data, behavior intervention plan development/implementation, and Manifestation Determinations.
  • Support campus staff in the development of the Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and consults with appropriate staff to ensure the successful implementation of the Behavior Intervention Plan.
  • Provide counseling evaluations and individual services for identified students, to include the development and progress reporting of counseling goals and objectives.
  • Submit required School Health and Related Service documentation regarding Session tickets adhering to district policy.
  • Provide and maintain documentation of staff development to aid school personnel in recognizing and understanding the needs of students with disabilities, intervention strategies related to learning and behavioral problems, and special education compliance issues.
  • Support students, teachers, and administrators in best practices regarding positive behavior supports.
  • Serve as a resource person concerning disabilities to parents, administrators, and instructional staff.
  • Collaborate with parents on the educational needs of their child and the understanding of assessment data.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, contract service providers, and other relevant individuals to ensure effective work with students.
  • Participate in the ARD Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures, as needed.
  • Participate in weekly campus staff meetings by collaborating with campus staff for the purpose of implementing new services in accordance with programmatic and regulatory requirements, as needed.
  • Compile and implement ongoing evaluation of the assessment program, using the information to provide the district recommendations regarding program changes and the purchase of evaluation and counseling materials.
  • Review Special Education records from students’ previous districts to complete the Student Transfer Agreement offering comparable services and PEIMS sheet.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, FERPA, HIPPA, Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists acts & rules and local board policy in the areas of psychological services, assessments, placement and planning for Special Programs services.
  • Willingness to adapt to change as well as take on various roles, responsibilities and travel to other campuses.Abide by all charter routines, operating guidelines and regulations.
  • Attend professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment, and share knowledge, skills, and information from these activities with colleagues.
  • Comply with all internal auditing timelines and required date submissions.
  • Participate in various internal audit activities to help support student programming and department compliance.
