Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities is Hiring a Teen Specialist: Part Time Near Minneapolis, MN

TITLE: Teen Specialist - Patrick Henry High School Club
DEPARTMENT/CLUB: Operations
REPORTS TO: Program Program and Branch Director
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time (non-exempt)
SALARY RANGE: $19.23 - $21.63 per hour (DOQ)
The Boys & Girls of the Twin Cities (BGCTC) mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The BGCTC is committed to ongoing strategic initiatives to reduce systemic racism throughout the Twin Cities and have defined ways that the Club serves as an activator in addressing the extreme disparities for young people in the communities we serve. The Club is implementing a program model that directly impacts the educational achievement gap in partnership with teachers/schools and parents/guardians.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To reach its commitment, the BGCTC is looking for an energetic, talented, and passionate candidate to serve as the Teen Specialist. The Teen Specialist is a member of the Youth Development Professionals team whose primary responsibility is to drive teen engagement in Club programs with focus on a post-secondary education and career readiness, ensuring that each teen member is on track to graduate High School and has a solid plan for the future.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Programming - Lead implementation of the Teen Pathways Program curriculum focusing on:
  • Service - volunteerism/mentoring; service learning, and accreditation
  • Leadership - leadership group, Youth of the Year, and council/committee leadership
  • Youth Voice - weekly current events, Teen Town Halls, Public Speaking, and Advocacy
  • Healthy Mind, Body, and Soul - holistic approach to a culture of wellness, conflict resolution, goal setting
  • School Success - academic goal setting, schoolwork support, post-secondary preparation, and scholarships
  • Planning for Future - career exploration, career visits & networking, financial literacy, workforce readiness, college visits, job/internship placements, and entrepreneurship
  • Creative Expression - writing, performing arts, visual arts, digital music, graphic design, audio, and video production
  • 21st Century Skill Building - STEM enrichment programming
  • Ensure all teen programming is conducted within quality standards aligned with best practices in youth development
  • Set up instructional stations on specific Teen Pathways program activities
  • Assist in the development of teen instructional strategies and techniques to improve program outcomes
  • With support of the Program Director, develop quality external partnerships to deepen and broaden the impact of programming.
  • Create intentional enrichment activities for after-school
  • Other duties as assigned.
Evaluation & Data
  • Ensure that all teens are rostered in program, and attendance is taken daily
  • Ensure that all teen participants are adequately assess at the designated points of assessment
  • Track all teen participants to ensure appropriate progress in Teen Pathways milestones or to make recommendation for instructional adjustments to meet that progress.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor of Arts in youth development, education, sociology, or related field, with two (2) or more years of experience in community-based youth development programs
  • Knowledge of development and administration of youth programs, staff supervision, event coordination and community partnership
  • Strong partnership development and relationship management skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill.
  • Candidate must be able to use Microsoft Office and have excellent skills in applicable software.
  • Knowledge of to effectively leverage commonly used social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter)
  • Must have and maintain a valid drivers’ license and be able to operate a company owned vehicle.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Graphic Design
Experience with Audio/Visual (May Include: Studio recording and/or, video editing, photography, etc.)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to climb stairs, lift at least 50 lbs., be able to stand and sit for long periods of time and be able to walk moderate distances. Occasional repetitive task required. This is a moderately stressful position that requires the candidate to be in good health.
