Primary Functions:
The Program Assistant works under the guidance and supervision of the Program Director and assists Youth Development Professionals implementing programming. Program Assistants ensure members’ safety, support and respond to members’ behavior, and act as a positive role model and mentor. Model constructive participation in all daily activities in the core area of healthy lifestyles, good character & leadership and academic success.. This responsibility requires careful attention to the physical and emotional safety of each and every individual member and to the overall development and formation of the group as a whole.
Key Roles: Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. PREPARE YOUTH FOR SUCCESS
a. Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
i. Provide warm welcome to all members
ii. Review, remind, and reinforce expectation with members
iii. Promote and stimulate program participation
iv. Provide positive behavior support and response for all members
b. Create an environment where all members feel physically, mentally, and emotionally safe
2. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION
a. Plan, prepare, implement and evaluate all programs that work towards the 3 Priority Outcome Areas: Good Character and Citizenship, Academic Success, and Healthy Lifestyles.
b. Connect the Club values to the activities in a developmentally appropriate manner
c. Support member check-in and check-out process
d. Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs, and appearance of Club at all times.
3. CHILD SUPERVISION AND GROUP MANAGEMENT
a. Ensure that positioning in the Club allows for constant supervision of the maximum amount of members
b. The supervision, safety, and well-being of all Club members, whether in large or small groups, at all times (on/off site)
c. Account for all Club members, take attendance at the beginning of every program, and follow check-in/out procedures
d. Provide positive behavior support and response for all members
e. Provide guidance and role modeling to members
f. Walk members safely between locations and on water/bathroom breaks
g. Assist Club members with belongings, lost and found, sunscreen/water, trash pick-up, etc.
4. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
a. Complete all on-boarding trainings and other trainings as requested by Supervisor
b. Set, work toward, and achieve measurable professional development goals
c. Attend all in-person trainings as stated by Direct Supervisor or Director of Operations
d. Display appropriate behavior (action and language) around members, parents, and staff
5. ADMINISTRATIVE
a. Demonstrate responsibility in regard to work schedule, meetings & trainings
b. Complete and submit paperwork accurately (timesheets, lesson plans, certifications, etc.)
c. Dress in appropriate attire/uniform
d. Maintain a positive attitude while working, help wherever needed, work well with co-workers
e. Display good customer service skills
f. Accept feedback and makes necessary corrections
g. Follow all Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northwood policies and procedures
6. OTHER
a. Perform miscellaneous tasks as requested by supervisor
b. Ability to relate well to members and previous experience working with members required
7. RELATIONSHIPS
a. Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, and explain guidelines/instructions established.
b. External: Enlist external community agencies and parents to assist in implementation of specialized program activities.
Preferred Skills/Knowledge
1 High School diploma or GED
1 Experience in working with children and adults
1 Knowledge of youth development
1 Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
1 Ability to deal with the general public
1 Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
1 Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
1 Obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within 3 month of employment
1 Valid State Driver’s License
