POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Teen Services Assistant-Middle School Readiness (IL II, Teen Services) 

Work Schedule: Part time-scheduled up to 30 hours per week, Monday – Friday, between 11:00 am and 8:00 pm with occasional later evening and weekend responsibilities for programming, training, and special events.

Reports to: Teen Services Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Working under the direction of the Teen Services Coordinator, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) Impact Leader II-Teen Services is responsible for quality assurance of BGCMC’s award winning youth development services and area specific programming for diverse youth primarily in 6th and 7th grade (ages 12-18) while maintaining flexibility to support all age groups served as needed. They are responsible for helping youth acquire the necessary developmental assets they need to achieve academic success, adopt a healthy lifestyle, and cultivate their good character and citizenship. Additionally, the Impact Leader II-Teen Services works in close collaboration with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners with the goal of inspiring, informing and preparing youth for post-secondary education and/or career development.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Provide guidance, mentoring and role modeling to youth to assist with planning, implementation, recruitment, and tracking attendance of programs.
  • Address discipline situations using BGCMC positive discipline approach which requires fairness, firmness, consistency, and kindness.
  • Assist youth with homework after school.
  • Tutor 6th-7th grade science, math, technology, literacy, and reading.
  • Facilitate Teen Field Trips. 
  • Lead activities &/or facilitate programs in one or more of the Core Program Areas listed below.
    • Education & Career Development 
    • Health & Life Skills 
    • Sports, Fitness & Recreation
    • Character Development & Leadership Development 
  • Supervise and maintain a safe, fun, and well-organized environment.
    • Ensure cleanliness and order by using sound judgment and enforcing club rules fairly, firmly, consistently, and with kindness.
    • Supervise Impact staff and volunteers.
  • Respect confidentiality of youth, employees, volunteers, and sensitive information
  • Maintain case Management systems for MSR participants.
  • Facilitate school day programming at school sites as needed.
  • Provide support to other program departments (ie. Education, SFR, Technology etc.) as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

POSITIONS REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of six months experience working with youth between 12 to 18 years old
  • Minimum of six months experience contributing to the implementation of curriculum and/or programming for youth ages 12-18
  • Passionate about youth success as defined in BGCMC Mission & Strategic Goal
  • Personal & professional alignment with BGCMC Core Values, Beliefs & Standards
  • Accepts responsibility as a Role Model/Mentor for Youth and Mandated Reporter
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, high-energy youth friendly environment
  • Keen attention to detail, safety, and order
  • Ability to manage students in classroom settings
  • Reliable transportation

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience as a youth development professional in the Boys & Girls Club Movement
  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish
  • First Aid & CPR Certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position including sitting or standing at least 50% of the time. Ability to work indoors and outdoors.

COMPENSATION:

The pay rate begins at $19.73 to $20.73 per hour. Paid benefits package at Impact Leader II level consisting of accrual of up to 30 hours paid vacation, 12 hours paid sick leave, plus 24 hours of paid California Healthy Workplace Healthy Family sick leave, medical, vision, dental, life and disability insurance, pension and 403(b) plan investment options. This position is classified as non-exempt and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
