Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore is Hiring a Social Worker Near Cambridge, MD

Status: Full-time, Exempt
Pay Range: $72,000 - $75,000
Hours: 10:00AM – 6:00PM Monday, Wednesday, Friday; and 12PM – 8PM Tuesday and Thursday during the school year, hours subject to change during summer months and/or school breaks.
Position Summary:
  • The Social Worker provides therapeutic and behavioral support for children and families to promote success in the Club, school, home and community. Integrating a social and emotional lens to their work, the Social Worker provides impactful individual and group therapy, case management, consultation, crisis intervention, grief support and referral work. The Social Worker will work collaboratively with Club employees, public school district employees and other public entities who support the child and connects the family to resources and appropriate care. The Social Worker will effectively manage a case load and clinical documentation while adhering to an evidence-based practice framework to manage and encourage progress for Club Members. Clinical work is guided by BGCMB’s approach: Safe & Inclusive Environment, Supportive & Healthy relationships, Meaningful experiences, and Trauma-informed care practices.
  • Boys & Girls Clubs’ environment is a fast-paced and fun place for kids ages 6-18. Our members opt-in to various meaningful activities from cultural arts to STEM programming to sports teams to leadership programs and more. The Clubs are open after school during the academic year, and all day long in the summer and some school breaks.
  • Hundreds of kids fill our Clubs and are looking for a safe place to engage with peers, receive a healthy meal, and have FUN. To be impactful in this setting, the Social Worker must be flexible, able to work with kids in a variety of settings, work collaboratively with a team of Club employees, react quickly to stressful situations, briefly cover various rooms if needed, interact positively with kids and families of all backgrounds, and maintain an emotionally positive environment for kids.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Strong passion for and experience working in a clinical setting with youth and families.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and motivation to work as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team in a youth-serving setting.
  • Knowledge and appreciation for patient populations’ cultural, religious, ethnic, and social systems in interactions, care planning and education.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to respond to feedback and incorporate it into practice.
  • Performs in accordance with evidence-based clinical framework; achieves high standards of care and application of clinical policies and procedures for all Club Members.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and risk assessment with ability to respond to trauma or psychiatric emergencies.
  • Skill in providing care appropriate to the age of the patients served within the club setting. Skill in establishing a therapeutic alliance and engaging the youth member in collaborative goal setting and prioritizing youth member needs.
  • Focus on Conflict resolution, restorative justice, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and Trauma/Trauma-informed practices.
  • Familiarity with community resources available to youth.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality of Club Members' records.
  • Skill in establishing a treatment alliance and engaging the client system in goal setting and prioritizing.
  • Ability to manage the dynamic and fast-paced nature of the Boys & Girls Clubs environment.
  • May provide clinical supervision for BSW/MSW student-interns who are in the Club average of 16 hours per week August through May.
  • Integrates training and support regarding behavior management best-practices for other Club employees as needed.
  • Participates in ongoing clinical supervision and team meetings.
  • Ongoing administrative duties including maintaining thorough and professional progress notes, termination plans, and communication with families, BGCMB staff and community partners.
  • Provide ongoing professional development to Cambridge staff to increase understanding of student-centered climate and culture, such as: Social & Emotional Learning, Equity, and Culturally Responsive Instruction
  • Maintain a list of school and community resources, interventions, and agencies that can be shared with students, staff, caregivers/families, and partners to assist students with their social, emotional, and academic needs
  • Aim to establish healthy relationships between club staff, school staff, and caregivers/families by encouraging communication between teachers and caregivers/families, help facilitate family meetings, and provide resources as needed.
Education & Experience:
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited college or university.
  • Licensure (State of Maryland) master’s level social worker (LMSW). In-house supervision offered.
  • Minimum of 1 year work experience in behavior intervention, youth development, small group facilitation, and/or case management.
  • The ability to read and write is necessary to complete reports and properly document program and organizational data.
  • Candidates must be able to pass criminal and driving records investigations, and reference checks.
  • Continued employment is based upon the successful completion of Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED courses and maintaining your certification which is paid for and coordinated by BGCMB.
  • The successful candidate will primarily work indoors. Accordingly, the ability to use a variety of equipment including janitorial and office equipment is required. The job requires the ability to stand for extended periods, kneel, reach, bend, and lift objects weighing in excess of 25lbs. Outdoor work and moderate physically demanding activities may be required on occasion. The ability to read and write is necessary to complete reports, properly document program, and organizational data.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to be insured under the company's insurance required
