Job Description

Gates Camp is owned and operated by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver (BGCMD). Gates Camp opened in 1974 and is located west of Boulder, Colorado. Campers range in age from 6 to 18 years and are primarily from low-income families in the Metro Denver area. Gates Camp offers traditional camp activities that include archery, canoeing, handicrafts, fishing, nature games, hiking, team-building, and campfire programs. For Summer 2023, Gates Camp will operate as a day camp most Tuesdays through Thursdays. There will be four overnight camp sessions throughout the summer, taking place from Thursday to Friday. The successful candidate is part of a team-oriented Club staff dedicated to serving our youth and creating an optimal Camp Experience. The Activity Leader will plan, supervise and implement a variety of high-yield activities and targeted programs with an outdoor education focus. This position's primary responsibilities are: • Planning and implementing a variety of programs for members of all ages, including fishing, handicrafts, canoeing, hiking, nature games, and other outdoor education curricula. • Helping Club members to make appropriate choices about their education, career, social, physical, and emotional needs as it relates to health and their interaction with the Colorado environment from their backyard to the backcountry. The position also assesses the developmental needs, interests, and characteristics of youth to develop targeted programs that result in an outcome-driven Club experience. • Inventory and care for materials. • Upkeep of all program areas. This is a contract position with a start date of May 30, 2023, and an end date of July 28, 2023. Company Description Job Requirements: · Candidates must be able to pass a drug test that includes screening for marijuana, criminal and driving records investigations, and reference checks. · The ability to read and write is necessary to complete reports and properly document program and organizational data. · Successful completion of Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED courses and maintaining your certification which is paid for and coordinated by BGCMD. Required Licenses, Skills, & Knowledge: · The job requires a CDL class B driver's license. Physical Requirements & Work Environment: · The successful candidate must be able to work at a high altitude (at or above 9,000 ft.), walk long distances on uneven terrain, have the stamina to work through long days, and can perform basic maintenance functions. · The successful candidate will primarily work indoors and outdoors, with outdoor work inclusive of moderately physically demanding activities. Accordingly, the ability to use a variety of outdoor equipment as well as janitorial and office equipment is required. · The job requires the ability to stand for extended periods on uneven ground, kneel, reach, bend, and lift objects weighing in excess of 25lbs.
