JOB SUMMARY:

In cooperation with the Site Director and School Principal or designee, plans implements, supervises and evaluate academic components of 21st Century Community Learning Center after school program area. Assist in development of appropriate lesson plans for utilization in the after school academic component. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Classroom Leadership, Planning, Implementation & Evaluation
  • Plans and implements activities in within budget constraints to achieve program objectives. Prepares monthly reports reflecting activities, including attendance and program participation for Site Director and School Principal. Performs any other duties the Directors or School Principal might deem necessary.
  • Provides Site and School Principal with regular program schedules and reports of activities. Takes direction from the Site Director regarding program development, implementation, supervision and outcome measurement.
  • Assists Site Director with referral of participants to the program. Focuses on participants’ personal development through diverse program offerings, with a focus on developing their interests and increasing their attendance, program participation, knowledge and abilities. 
  • Implements guidance and discipline policies relating to Club participants. Communicates and maintains standards of conduct for program participants. Assists with maintenance of records relating to participant discipline situations and participant development issues.
  • Recommends new offerings in specific program areas and creates and implements necessary plans to initiate new program offerings. Identifies prospective community resources/volunteers that could assist with program.
  • Plans and implements special events and activities that give program participants the opportunity to exhibit their skills.
  • Provides special guidance and development of participants assigned through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers project and other assigned projects. References initial participant intake forms to determine needs and completes periodic tracking forms to track attendance and program participation. Identifies and implements individualized guidance strategies based on the participant’s identified needs in consultation with Site Director.
  • Develops and implements opportunities for participant involvement in outside educational, recreational and leadership programs and activities relating to program areas. Plans, implements and leads field trips that complement program activities, if deemed necessary. 
  • Represents the organization and interprets its policies, objectives, standards and programs to project participants, parents, community organizations and the public. Promotes and stimulates the project participants knowledge of and interest in the Boys & Girls Clubs programs and activities
  • Involves parents in addressing participant development issues through planning and implementing activities to foster their involvement.
  • Helps maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the facility through encouraging participant’s involvement in keeping program areas clean, putting away supplies after use, etc.
  • Assist with activities in other program areas as assigned.

Safety/Facility

  • Communicate and enforce organization’s policies, procedures and standards with regard to upkeep, usage and maintenance of program areas and equipment 
  • Observe students and work with mentors and other staff to correct unsafe behaviors, to enforce safety rules and to communicate safety guidelines
  • Keep facility/equipment in program areas in good repair and clean. Report needs to School Principal, BGCMA Site Director
  • Promote cleanliness in program areas with mentors and students helping at program’s start and ending
  • Ensure emergency procedures are implemented and followed and take actions to prevent accidents

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college required; teaching credentials highly preferred

Experience

  • At least three years’ experience planning and implementing programs for youth
  • Knowledge of youth development, ability to motivate and provide guidance to youth through establishing positive relationships with youth participants; demonstrated caring and respect exhibited toward participants.
  • Ability to relate to the general public, parents and Club participants in a friendly, positive, and professional manner
  • Demonstrated ability to convey Boys & Girls Club policies and procedures to participants, and to implement appropriate guidance and discipline policies
  • Ability to organize and supervise participants to maintain a safe and welcoming environment
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, energy and commitment in personal contract with participants, parents, supervisors and the general public. 

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to creatively plan, coordinate, organize and implement quality classroom lessons and activities directly and through collaboration with other teachers and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other departments/organizations to deliver a quality after-school classroom experience to students
  • Demonstrated ability to train teaching assistants and volunteers 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, in classroom settings to students and mentors and to parents
  • Ability to resolve classroom conflicts and problems
  • Demonstrated ability to control expenses and creatively use resources
  • Demonstrated ability to persuasively promote and deliver curriculum and activities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision
  • Excellent human relations skills and ability to motivate students, mentors and volunteers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school staff, students, mentors and volunteers
  • P.C. Literate, preferably with expertise using Word, MS Office, graphics programs and Photoshop

Physical and Mental Requirements: Demonstrated ability to maintain a high-energy level, be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities, speak clearly and hear. Ability to get along with diverse personalities while at all times displaying tact, maturity and flexibility.

ENVIRONMENT & WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal internal office environment with occasional need to travel to club locations within the Metro Atlanta area. Frequent internal contacts with employees throughout organization required. Daily contact with club staff, club members, outside organizations and individuals to plan, coordinate and deliver programs. The job requires the ability to stand for extended periods, kneel, reach, bend, and lift objects weighing in excess of 25lbs. Outdoor work and moderate physically demanding activities may be required on occasion. Travel to special events and field trips required. Must be able to work daily afternoon/evening hours. Occasional weekend work required to accomplish objectives.

EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION:

Nonexempt employees are entitled, under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), to time and one-half their "regular rate" of pay for each hour they actually work over the applicable FLSA overtime threshold in the applicable FLSA work period.
