Position: Director of Annual Giving

Position Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Reports to: Chief Development Officer
Compensation Type: Salary
Salary Range: $67,000 - $77,000
Position Summary:
The Director of Annual Giving manages a portfolio of donors, advisory boards, community partners, volunteers, and other stakeholders for Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia’s six Clubs. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and carrying out annual fundraising and donor/volunteer engagement activities, such as advisory board and committee meetings, campaigns, appeals, special events, and stewardship plans through a lens of inclusive and equitable community engagement. This role will strategically expand the organization’s annual giving program with a goal of significantly increasing the base of annual donors who give up to $10,000 on an annual basis. The Director of Annual Giving Reports to the Chief Development Officer.
Position Description:
  • Plans and executes steps for individual donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for annual fund donors up to $10,000 organization wide
  • Works in collaboration with the resource development department, staff and board leaders, volunteer committees, community stakeholders, and other partners to oversee and execute organization-wide strategies that maximize operating revenues
  • Manages annual Investor campaigns ($500 - $9,999) in Orange, Madison, James River, and Charlottesville-Albemarle
  • Oversees board/volunteer committee activities in Orange, Madison, and James River, and BGCCVA volunteer activities, helping to inform and shape resource development initiatives, events, and campaigns through the lens of the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)
  • Maintains a leadership role in the implementation of purposeful and mission-centered special events
  • Identifies key success metrics for individual fundraising, including donor acquisition, retention, recapture, and increased giving, and sets goals according to these metrics for the organization and annual contributors of up to $10,000
  • Assists with Club budgets and manages event budgets to support the organization’s annual budgeting process and ongoing solicitation and reconciliation
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates events and fundraising strategy through a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Collaborates with Club leaders in cultivating new supporters and partners, with particular attention to fostering an affirming environment of community support that is reflective of the Club members and families served
  • Utilizes digital fundraising platforms and software to run campaigns and generate support throughout the year
  • Oversees or develops content and design for external donor and community communications and marketing, including videos, social media content, appeals, brochures, and impact reports
  • Creates and supports opportunities, systems, and expectations that promote an organizational culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Gives donor-focused presentations to Club stakeholders, community groups, and individuals
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Commitment to the Boys & Girls Club mission
  • 3-5 years of fundraising experience preferred
  • Ability to easily engage and inspire constituents across the organization including staff, Club members, volunteers, community partners, vendors, and others
  • Results-oriented and results-driven, with an entrepreneurial approach to volunteer recruitment and management, fundraising, and problem-solving
  • A professional and resourceful style with the ability to work independently and as part of a highly collaborative team, and to take initiative, manage multiple tasks and projects, and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated track record of resource development and executing successful annual giving strategies
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining new fundraising programs and affinity groups
  • Strong organizational, management and communications skills, with excellent writing ability
  • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data related to donor giving
  • Comprehensive knowledge of gift processing and acknowledgement practices
  • Well-versed in direct mail and e-mail best practices and implementation
  • Positive attitude and passion for the organization’s mission
  • A high level of computer skills. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Publisher, Adobe software (or similar programs), and Abila Fundraising 50 (or similar development software) is a plus
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as appropriate; transportation capabilities to work at multiple Club and community sites
Education and Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:
  • Ability to remain stationary for long periods of time
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading
  • Ability to be effective in an environment with varying levels of noise throughout the day
