The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central (BGCCO) is to enable young people to reach their full potential. Our vision is for all young people regardless of their zip code or circumstances to have the opportunity to achieve a great future.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Ohio, an Affiliate of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, empowers the young people who need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens by providing high-quality and impactful out-of-school time programming for youth in grades K-12. BGCCO serves 4,000 youth per year throughout Central Ohio.
BGCCO operates Clubs in Columbus, Newark, and Marion.

Position Summary
  • Youth Development Professional (YDP) practice is to provide children and teens with high-quality experiences that support their current and long-term success. Staff utilize our five key elements for positive youth development, based on research that studied many Clubs’ best practices:
  • Create a safe, positive environment.
  • Generate fun and foster a sense of belonging.
  • Encourage supportive relationships with peers and adults.
  • Provide opportunities and set expectations.
  • Offer recognition to positive behavior.
  • By recognizing young people’s contributions and accomplishments, Club staff can help kids build relationships with peers and develop a sense of belonging. Other ways Club staff support youth include helping them reframe conflict, identify their feelings, and understand the relationship between emotion, behavior, and consequence.
  • Essential Job Function & Responsibilities:
  • Assisting in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs, services, and activities with members.
  • Maintain a program area schedule that satisfies the diverse interests and abilities of Club members; ensure programming is age appropriate.
  • Contributing to a healthy and safe environment, ensuring that facilities, equipment, and supplies are properly maintained.
  • Promote the development of social and emotional skills.
  • Manage classroom conduct and exhibit problem-solving skills needed to redirect behavior.
  • Maintain daily and monthly attendance records during programming.
  • Contributing to programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success.
  • Helping to create a Club environment that facilitates the achievement of desirable youth development outcomes.
  • Fulfilling responsibilities for the BGCCO at the primary club to which they are assigned as well as traveling to different clubs on an as needed basis.
  • The flexibility to work at different sites is an expectation of this position.
  • Perform all other duties that may be necessary to carry out the purpose of the Organization.
Leadership
  • Contribute to programs, activities and services that are essential to preparing youth members for success through organizational awareness, systemic and innovative thinking.
  • Contribute to positive youth development through relationship building, providing recognition, influencing, coaching by example and servant leadership, providing members with feedback, listening, and fostering organizational wellness.
  • Ability to supervise and implement quality programs for youth and to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
  • Monitor programs, services, and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and positive appearance of the Club/Extension Site at all times.
  • Serve as a mentor and life-skills teacher to all members at all times.
Professionalism
  • Demonstrate high levels of enthusiasm towards Club members, parents, and visitors while offering an exceptional customer service experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma/GED required.
  • Ability to work 100% on-site.
  • Prior experience working with children preferred in either a paid or volunteer capacity, including but not limited to mentoring, tutoring, coaching, and teaching.
  • Communication skills – good written and oral communication skills and the ability to relate to the public and those within the Club.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents, and community leaders.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office products.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 20 lbs./ (Occasionally)
  • Stand, sit, walk (Frequently)
  • Operates a computer and other office productivity equipment such as copy machine, computer, printer, timeclock, typing (frequently).
  • Kneeling, crouching, bending (Frequently).
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (occasionally).
