Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston is Hiring a Volunteer Manager Near Boston, MA

Join Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, where we strive to create a positive and rewarding experience for individuals contributing their time and talents through volunteering. As the Myra H. Kraft Volunteer Manager, you’ll create a program which fosters meaningful connections between youth and caring adults by overseeing all aspects of our volunteer program from recruitment and training to evaluation and recognition. Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations, this position will work closely with staff throughout the organization to grow engagement opportunities that support BGCB’s mission and strategy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruitment, Screening, & Placement
Work with staff at BGCB sites and the Main Office to identify volunteer needs, including any ongoing, direct service, and special event needs.
Work closely with the Development team to establish meaningful opportunities for donors and prospects to volunteer, focusing on deep engagement with BGCB’s mission and strategy.
Work with staff to create and implement an updated online process for volunteer inquiries, placement, and tracking.
Implement an ongoing marketing strategy to recruit volunteers to meet identified needs, including:
posting volunteer opportunities via internal and external websites.
partnering with colleagues to identify donors, board members, and other existing relationships who may be able to fulfill volunteer needs.
regularly communicating with staff about upcoming volunteer opportunities.
maintaining and establishing partnerships with local community groups.
representing BGCB at volunteer information sessions.
Respond to volunteer inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Ensure appropriate screening and placement processes are being followed and volunteer data is being tracked accurately in the necessary database(s).
Work closely with the Human Resources Department to ensure compliance in recruitment, screening, background checks, and other relevant volunteer services.
Training & Retention:
In partnership with BGCB sites, implement regular volunteer orientation and training sessions to meet the needs of incoming and returning volunteers.
Implement staff training to enhance expertise in volunteer management.
Work closely with site Volunteer Coordinators and Directors/Managers to ensure volunteers and staff feel supported.
Enhance retention strategies to reduce turnover and increase volunteer satisfaction during and between seasons.
Develop and disseminate a mid and year-end survey to all registered volunteers.
Volunteer Events:
Serve as the lead project manager on our Holiday Service Day in December. Collaborate with colleagues across departments, teams, and BGCB sites to identify needs, secure resources (food donations, supplies, etc.), communicate out to volunteers, and plan and organize logistics for production and distribution of holiday produce bags.
Plan and execute BGCB’s annual Volunteer Recognition event in April. Communicate to existing volunteers to ensure strong attendance and appreciation are felt.
Lead the development of a new Spring Service Day. Work with colleagues across the organization to identify service project(s) that fulfill needs in our Club communities and offer a large-scale volunteer opportunity for interested folks.
Create a Volunteer of the Year (corporate and individual) with the help of a committee to be announced at Club Night in June.
General BGCB Expectations:
Evaluation – Assessing our impact is critical to our work. All staff is expected to participate in various evaluation efforts throughout each program year, including the annual member survey.
Healthy Behavior Modeling –Teaching youth/teens the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle is a BGCB priority. As a result, all staff is expected to model healthy behavior while working with our members.
Inclusive Environment – BGCB values creating child-friendly environments, where youth/teens of all abilities can be successful and participate. BGCB expects employees to embrace its focus on inclusion of all members, regardless of disability or developmental challenge.
Continuous Learning –Building the capacity of staff is central to BGCB. The organization encourages and requires that all staff participate in annual professional development opportunities that continue to cultivate their skills in the youth development field.
Safe Spaces – Every staff member shares the responsibility for ensuring BGCB is, and remains, an environment free of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse.
Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Work Demands):
Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years related experience is preferred.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Strong interpersonal/communication skills, with the ability to interact with a variety of audiences, including staff, board members, volunteers, and key individuals at partner organizations.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and an ability to query complex database systems, such as collecting and organizing data for research/reporting purposes.
Willingness and flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for Operations and/or agency events.
Valid driver’s license required and ability to commute throughout the Metro-Boston area as needed.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. to assist in transport of donated goods.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 9a-5p
Pay Range: $55k -$65k (Depending on Relevant Experience & Internal Equity)
