Description

ORGANIZATION MISSION:

The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast is to provide high-quality, out-of-school Club experiences to ensure our young people, especially those who need us most, are on track to graduate from high school with a plan for their future, demonstrate good character & citizenship, and live a healthy lifestyle.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast is looking to hire energetic, caring, and responsible Kitchen Mentors, to oversee, coach, and work with our Club members in preparing basic foods and family style recipes. Under the direction of the Community Food Program Director, Kitchen Mentors are present in kitchen to supervise and instruct youth with cooking activities in our Teen Cooking Clubs, along with assistance with the meal service of the USDA meal program when needed.

Requirements

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with Food Program Staff in selection and planning of recipes designed to be completed by youth members within 30-minute sessions.

• Assist and coach youth members in food preparation activities.

• Supervise and assist with daily kitchen clean up and sanitation practices.

• Cooperate and support the Club Director and staff with coordinating the kitchen activities with all the other activities and functions at the Clubs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred

• Must have a Food Safety and Sanitation Certificate (preferred)

• Must have basic food knowledge and be comfortable working in a kitchen with others

• Must pass level two background screening

• Must be available to work weekday afternoons 2:30PM to 6PM during the school year (Summer hours will remain Monday through Friday, but activity will be earlier in the day).

• Must use personal vehicle and have a clean driving record

• Must be able to engage with children of all ages and understand the factors affecting their lives

• Some experience in restaurant, food service, or food production, or Culinary Arts training; in home cooking experience may be considered

• Knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs, and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast; and the principles and practices of non-profit organization

TRAVEL:

Must have a clean driving record and use their own vehicle if required to travel to another Club location; mileage will be reimbursed.
