Position Overview
Philmont is looking for a motivated individual with great leadership skills to join their team as Supervisor, Camping Backcountry reporting to the Manager, Camping Services. This role will provide management of camping and back-country related services for the delivery of high-quality youth programs. Responsibilities also include supervising, training, and mentoring employees to ensure the availability of a quality trained staff, planning and developing delivery of business unit strategies and initiatives for camping operations, and managing operational and administrative activities. Being able to develop short and long-term goals which includes preparing business plans and budgets are key roles as well as building and maintaining relationships with the community, organizations, and institutions. You will have the unique opportunity to actively market and promote camping services programs.

Knowledge of: Backcountry camping principles and safety procedures; child development and best practices for working with youth; risk management and emergency procedures; program development and evaluation methods; budget planning and financial management.
Skill in: Motivating, coaching, and developing staff; planning, organizing, and implementing camping programs; effectively communicating with staff, youth, and stakeholders; actively promoting camping programs to the community; managing budgets, schedules, and documentation; identifying and mitigating risks, ensuring a safe environment; addressing challenges and finding solutions; mediating disagreements and facilitating positive interactions.
Ability to: Make sound judgments in complex situations; work effectively with diverse teams; build rapport and positive relationships with staff, youth, and stakeholders; effectively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; adjust to changing situations and unforeseen challenges; participate in and lead outdoor activities.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management, Parks & Recreation, Outdoor Education or a related field from an accredited college or university.
