Title: Teacher Assistant 

Reporting Relationship: BBGH Child Care Director

General Summary of Responsibilities:

The Teacher Assistant supports the Teachers and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the Teacher Assistant observes and documents children’s interest and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. Teacher Assistant are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Director

Essential Functions: 

• Assist in the implementation of curriculum activities and encourage participation by children.
• Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
• Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and progress reports.
• Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
• Help ensure a smooth, daily transition from home to a child care center.
• Follow all center policies and state regulations.
• Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
• Participate and contribute to team meetings and program assessment to ensure a quality program.
• Display a positive work ethic through attendance, punctuality, productivity, dependability, and reliability
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:  

Education Requirements:

Must be at least 18 years of age and of good moral character and must meet one of the following requirements:

Required:: High School diploma or GED:

Conditional: Within 6 months of hire you must A. 1500 verified clock hours of experience in organized group activities for young children as indicated by a positive reference from a former employer or supervisor; or B. Submit a written plan for Department approval to acquire at least three credit hours or 45 clock hours of training in administration, early childhood education, education, or child/youth development, in a period not to exceed six months. The licensee must have a copy of the written plan and Department approval for Department review.

• Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
• An understanding of child development.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Displays a positive work ethic through attendance, punctuality, productivity, dependability, and reliability.
• Infant/child CPR and First Aid certificate.
• Safety Training per Nebraska DHHS within the first year of employment.
• Must complete the Nebraska Early Learning Guidelines Training within 5 years of employment.
• Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.

Post-offer/per-employment background check and drug screen are required.
