Overview:
Bowditch & Dewey is seeking a full time (non-exempt) experienced Trust & Estates (T&E) Paralegal to support attorneys in the Trust & Estates practice area. This hybrid position, based in our Worcester office, offers 4 in-office days and 1 remote day per week. This individual will interact directly with T&E attorneys and legal administrative assistants. Prior T&E experience is required.
Trust & Estates Paralegal
The Trust & Estates paralegal conducts a wide variety of tasks to assist attorneys in their practices, including drafting probate documents and other trust and estate administration related documents and communicating with clients. The person in this role is responsible for assisting attorneys, other paralegals and firm members with all aspects of trust administration working in a team-oriented practice group.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Performance of all phases of trust and estate administration, to include but are not limited to the following:
· Independently collect estate information and track estate related deadlines.
· Organize and analyze asset information.
· Prepare probate related forms.
· Assist with Estate and Gift Tax return preparation.
· File probate forms online and if necessary, in person.
· Marshall assets and arrange for valuation, as necessary.
Probate Court practice responsibilities include:
· Read and interpret wills and trust instruments.
· Prepare Trustee succession paperwork and see through to execution.
· Prepare and file all documents required to probate wills.
· Prepare receipt and release agreements, disclaimers, affidavits, accounting petitions.
· Handle issuance letters and oversee publication of notices.
Skills:
· Proficiency with advanced MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher.
· Familiarity with local court rules and procedures is critical.
· Knowledge of records management applications such as NetDocs is a plus.
· Knowledge of CCH Axcess is a plus.
Requirements:
· Minimum of 5 years of paralegal experience in Trust & Estates and probate administration, preferably in a law firm.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Excellent writing and research skills.
· Attention to detail.
· Paralegal Certification from an approved program is preferred.
