Job Overview: Join our team as a Certified Medical Coding & Billing Associate and become a vital link in our patient care journey. This role involves reviewing clinical documentation, assigning appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes, and entering data into the EMR/billing system. The incumbent ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines, liaises with physicians for clarification, and collaborates with reimbursement staff to address inquiries. The role demands meticulous attention to detail, strong coding expertise, and effective communication skills.

Schedule/Type: FT - onsite/hourly
Wage: $25-32/hr, commensurate with experience

Requirements
Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Review clinical documentation to determine suitable ICD-10 and CPT codes for reporting physician services.
  • Interpret progress notes, operative reports, and discharge summaries to accurately assign coding.
  • Enter data into the EMR/billing system, selecting appropriate codes, diagnoses, and modifiers.
  • Collaborate with physicians to clarify procedures and services billed, ensuring accurate coding.
  • Review provider surgery logs and clinical reports to capture all billable services.
  • Ensure physician documentation complies with third-party and regulatory guidelines.
  • Address coding and billing inquiries in coordination with reimbursement staff.
  • Collaborate with Billing Office team members as necessary.
  • Meet departmental goals and objectives.
  • Adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain punctuality for work, meetings, and professional obligations.
  • Participate in administrative meetings and professional development activities.
  • Assist in evaluating departmental performance and suggesting improvements.
  • Recommend new approaches and procedures for departmental efficiency.
  • Contribute to Billing Department projects and goals.
  • Take ownership of special projects, conducting research and implementing action plans.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to company, departmental, and HR policies and procedures.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in CPT/ICD-9/ICD-10 coding required, preferably in orthopedic physician services (strongly preferred).
  • Good working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
Performance Requirements:
  • Understand EMR/billing systems functionality.
  • Stay updated on third-party billing regulations and procedures.
  • Code and bill accurately, using CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  • Build effective relationships with colleagues, physicians, and external parties.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Interpret clinical data precisely from various sources.
  • Work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Evaluate and suggest improvements for efficiency.
  • Handle stress effectively while maintaining quality performance.
  • Work onsite, in person, in an office setting.
