Summary:
At the direction of the Director of Transportation, the Transportation Supervisor supervises the assigned set of drivers, student assistants, and dispatchers at the assigned terminal. Assists with the evaluation and adjustment of routes, runs, and stops. Resolves issues related to field trips, routes, and terminal operations and escalate issues to the Director of Transportation as needed. In coordination with school principals and other staff, handles parental requests and complaints. At the discretion of the Director of Transportation, supervisors may be assigned additional supervision duties associated with one of the following areas or employee groups: Drug and alcohol testing, hiring and recruiting, training, routers, or special projects. This position will work out of the Boulder Terminal.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as the primary contact between the Transportation Department and schools in all matters of student transportation.
- Manage the day-to-day operations and work of all assigned personnel, routes and associated areas.
- Maintain compliance and advise on all applicable local, state and federal agency regulations.
- Participate in local and state wide events and committees related to transportation safety and compliance.
- Identification and recommendation of new processes or procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency in the department.
- Maintains direct communication with the Director of Transportation and other departments regarding operations and potential problems.
- Complete routine reports and ensure accuracy of transportation data.
- Serves as a liaison between the Transportation Department and the general public in matters of pupil transportation.
- Facilitates and participates in meetings and communications with District, department, school (in/out of district) and parents regarding student transportation.
- Respond, investigate, report and complete all requirements associated with district vehicle accidents including but not limited to the maintenance of accident files and data reporting requirements to regulatory agencies.
- Assists with the recommendation of assignments, promotions, transfers, and/or termination of all employees in the department.
- Investigates allegations, facilitates due process, writes disciplinary letters and supervises reviews regarding employee conduct and performance.
- Contributes to the development of appropriate information so that major decisions can be made regarding route changes, new routes and the purchase of department vehicles.
- Mediate and mitigate department issues and conflicts.
- Disseminates routine communications with Transportation personnel.
- Maintains a flexible, on call 24/7, schedule with early morning weather reporting to late evening meetings and accident investigations.
- Observes weather conditions and provides recommendations to the Director concerning safety of bus transportation in adverse conditions.
- Conducts periodic meetings of Terminal personnel to facilitate in-service training and disseminate information.
- Conducts regular meetings with terminal support staff to maintain a consistent flow of information and to improve service, skills, and performance.
- Conducts employee evaluations of all assigned personnel as needed.
- Monitors employee position control for the Terminal to assure positions are filled and no new positions are created without authorization.
- Monitors work schedules and delegates assignments of available work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelors Degree with a major pertinent to the position requirements, or equivalent experience with a minimum of five years working in transportation environments.
- Colorado Commercial Drivers' License with proper endorsements to drive a school bus (CDL Class B); must acquire after 60 days.
- Must have a valid Colorado Drivers' License
- Working knowledge of transportation computer applications, i.e. routing, GPS, and internal personnel management software; must acquire within 60 days.
- Completed BVSD online application
- Must be able to communicate in English (Read/Write)
Preferred:
- Minimum of three years experience in: Personnel Management
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
- Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process.
