Summary:
Directly responsible for leadership and management of custodial operations. Ensure customer service and custodial service is effectively provided to all facilities through standardized operating procedures. Plans, supervises, evaluates and coordinates the operational and training activities of employees for the district custodial operations. Manages the department budgets, analyzes and evaluates new products, technology, equipment, supplies and services for improvements/advancements in custodial functions. Interview, hire, train, evaluate and assist in disciplinary action of custodial personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Visit and inspect District sites for proper utilization of custodial time, materials and equipment on a nightly basis.

-Develop and implement short- and long-term goals to effectively and efficiently manage district custodial building/site needs.

  • Develop, implement and establish standardized cleaning procedures and training for district custodial personnel.
  • Implement various custodial related programs, including routine, proactive, preventative, and predictive.

-Develop and implement long- and short-term goals and Key Performance Indicators to effectively and efficiently manage District building/site needs related to custodial operations.

  • Monitor effectiveness of training, programs and projects.
  • Develop and implement a training program and training schedule on standardized cleaning procedures for District custodial personnel.
  • Understand and enforce labor agreements and departmental procedures and rules as well as understand labor laws and policies.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and repair district custodial equipment. Collaborate with site custodians to inventory and maintain a district equipment database , forecast equipment needs, and execute a life cycle plan for custodial equipment.
  • Provide human resources administration for custodial personnel such as hiring, mentoring, discipline and training.
  • Coordinate workloads and schedule substitute (daily and long-term custodian absences) operations with site administrators; resolve issues and conflicts.
  • Maintain excellent communication and customer service with all district facilities and staff.
  • Responsible for review, approval and verification of reported time in district time and labor system.

  • Provide technical expertise regarding district custodial operations and create, develop procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations, including environmental, energy, safety, and integrated pest management standards.
  • Implement sustainability practices in all aspects of the job responsibilities.

-Develop, prepare and monitor the annual department budget. Forecast and budget for short and long term departmental and capital expenditures. Monitor and authorize expenditures in accordance with district procedures.

  • Assist and coordinate custodial disaster recovery activities related to school specific emergencies on a 24/7 call basis.
  • Ensure integrated pest management through in-house programs and outside vendors.
  • Leads the district’s Custodial Advisory Committee.
  • Supervise, evaluate and manage the performance of custodians and other assigned staff.
  • Participates in the interview and hire process for all school Head Custodian positions.
  • Respond as essential personnel in case of an emergency, weather or environmental event, and/or school/facility/district closure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and meet one of the following criteria:
  • Specialized advanced courses in business, technical or vocational school up to two years of college plus a minimum of one year experience supervising employees, tracking and monitoring equipment and researching chemicals.

OR

  • Certified trainings relevant to the position (certificates must be uploaded to the application), minimum of one year experience supervising employees, tracking and monitoring equipment and researching chemicals, and a minimum of two years as a custodian.
  • Currently hold a valid Colorado Driver's License
  • Submit a current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and must be insurable and maintain insurability per Colorado School Districts Self Insurance Pool (CSDSIP) standards
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) and direct the work of others by oral and written instructions in English, must pass English component of interview process.

Preferred:
-Advanced computer skills including ordering products, record keeping, equipment tracking, etc.
-Ability to research different products including cleaning chemicals, gym floor finishes, hand soap, machinery, cleaning equipment, etc. Knowledge of chemical characteristics, potential hazards of, and appropriate uses.

  • Ability to recognize and teach the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions.
