    Summary:
    This position is designed to encourage development of healthy lifestyles for students and families at Emerald Elementary. Position includes responsibility for designing and implementing afterschool classes, four family events to reinforce healthy lifestyles, development of family activity cards as take-homes for the students and some data collection. There is a lot of flexibility for the employee to design this program with the supervisor, however, grant requirements along with interests and needs of student feedback must be considered. The employee in this position works under the general direction and supervision of the 21st Century Grant Supervisor at Emerald Elementary in Broomfield.
    Class Objective:
    Students will participate in non-competitive group games and individual skill-building, designed to serve students who do not already regularly participate in physical activities. The objective is to provide developmentally appropriate movement skills, physical fitness, social development, skill competency and cognitive understanding about physical activity. The program is designed to increase student motivation and participation in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, emphasizing non-elimination games at levels designed to develop aerobic capacity, muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. Students attend classes for 45-60 minutes, twice a week, in age appropriate groups. There is a lot of flexibility for the employee to design this program with the supervisor, however, grant requirements along with interests and needs of student feedback must be considered.
    Responsibilities:
    • Design and teach classes of 15-20 students (K-5th gr) according to class objectives
    • Plans and implements four evening parent events (2 each session) in order to reinforce learning to family members
    • Complies to all grant and BVSD requirements
    • Provides systems and data for grant reporting (including student/family survey at beginning and end of each session)
    • Keeps equipment in good repair and well organized
    • Collaborates with other instructors and school staff in a cooperative manner
    • Ensures safe practices through well supervised classes, following attendance procedures and parent pick up policies, and age appropriate activities and expectations
    -Prepares take- home activity cards for families to do at home
    Qualifications:
    Required:
    • Bachelor's degree in physical education, or combination of experience, education, or training which provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills listed in the class objective listed above
    • Two years experience working with school age children in a group setting (15-20 students)
    • Possess or obtain first aid/CPR certification & pass BVSD required background check
    Preferred:
    • Must be well trained in creating and implementing physical activity for school age children with the knowledge and skills to create diverse moderate to vigorous activities, and lead and motivate groups of children with different abilities and interests
    • Flexibility to work with a diverse community of students, family members, colleagues and school staff
    • Ability to motivate/guide/inspire students with compassion and respect for their individuality
    • Flexibility to mold program around interests of students when appropriate
    • Ability to make decisions in accordance with rules, regulations, and procedures
    • Computer skills – (word, excel, data entry, google docs)
    • Ability to understand, follow and implement oral and written instructions
    • Bilingual Spanish/English
    • Ability to perform light lifting, minimum 75 pounds
