Organization Information:

The College Advising Corps (CAC) is a national non-profit organization that works to increase opportunities for students by making education beyond high school more accessible and equitable. College Advising Corps-Boston University (CAC-BU) places well-trained, recent college graduates as full-time advisers in 32 area high schools (Boston Public Schools, KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate High School, Malden High School & Somerville High School) to help students navigate the complex processes of college admissions, matriculation and securing financial aid.

Position Overview:

CAC-BU seeks to select recent Boston-area college graduates for a year of full-time AmeriCorps service as college advisers in partner high schools. AmeriCorps member college advisers will report to program staff and to an on-site supervisor in each of the schools they will serve. They serve for 1-2 years in a paid AmeriCorps service position and receive a living allowance as well as a benefits package including health and dental, educational award and tuition remission.

Essential Functions:

• Provide one-on-one admissions and financial aid assistance to students andfamilies.
• Organize group events that encourage students and families to create post-graduate plans/apply tocollege.
• Establish productive working relationships with principals, counselors and teachers in assigned partnerschool.
• Assess,inconsultationwith CAC-BUandpartnerschool,theneedsoftheschoolandadaptprogramsandactivitiestomeet theseneeds.
• Assist the CAC-BU and evaluation staff by collecting and interpreting key progress and outcome variables to evaluate the effectiveness ofprogramming.
• Record service activity data and submit monthly progress reports to documentoutcomes.Maintain expertise in admissions and financial aid advising by participating fully in pre- and in-service training and other opportunities for professionaldevelopment.

Marginal Functions:

• Assist in the efforts of the other CAC-BUadvisers.
• Represent CAC-BU to potential supporters and other interestedparties.
